Sync is getting stuck and won't complete
Sync never finishes, Every morning I check the status in the Dropbox app. It's the same 26GB that never completes. I am only using 32% of my Dropbox account, so it's not the size. I'm up to date on payment.
Is there a way to see a single concise list of the files/folders it is trying to sync? Either in the Dropbox app or via a browser at the Dropbox site?
Thank you, Peter
You could try finding and moving it out of the Dropbox folder petrusrung22 - renaming it might also help.
Have you rebooted your computer at all lately by the way?

Hi petrusrung22, sorry to hear about your syncing issue.
Could you let me know the app's exact status and version as shown in your system tray/menu bar?
Also, can you click on your avatar in the app's preferences and then on the 'View sync issues' option?
Are there any files listed there?
Let me know what you find, Peter.

There are no sync issues
I am on a Mac
Dropbox app version I think is 145.4.4921
Thanks

Could you also post a screenshot of the app's exact status petrusrung22?
Is it 'up to date' or stuck at syncing a specific number of files?
- HuemeExplorer | Level 3Hello,
I have problems to delete my trash on Mac after macOS Ventura update and only if my Mac is in syncing with Dropbox .the sync symbol doesn’t stop to sync as well. Do you guys have a solution. Sorry for my bad English. Cordially Hugo .- MeganDropbox Staff
Hi Hueme, let's jump right into this!
In regards to your trash, can you let me know if you get any errors? Also, are you trying to empty your trash from Dropbox related files?
As for your app, can you let me know more, since I am not sure I understood the precise issue? Is the app stuck syncing content? If so, what is its syncing status at the moment?
Let me know more!

Hi,
I have been trying to sync my files locally to dropbox, but see these 149 files to be synced for a few days. Even though it says only needs 43 min with 33MB files to be synced. The syncing process is going on and on with no progress. In the meanwhile, my newly added files to the dropbox folder are not automatically uploaded online, but I still can see in the shared folders, files added by other people are added to my folder locally.
Could you please help me with this? I have been driven nuts. I have an account with 2TB of space and I am only using 1 TB so far.

Hi Megan,
I can see that dropbox is "syncing 163 files" and the version of my app is v165.4.4300.
I don't see any issues in "sync issues," please see the photo:

I moved a folder containing thousands of files into the DropBox folder, then DropBox said "Syncing 9551 files". After two days, it is still "Syncing 9551 files" or "Syncing 9552 files" or something else like that. I thought maybe I shouldn't move so many files into the DropBox folder at one time, so I moved some files out of the folder, but it didn't change anything. I wonder how I can solve the problem. My system is mac OS Monterey. Thank you for your time and help.

Hi Megan, thanks for your reply. I didn't think about that before ... I tried restarting the app or computer and they didn't work. I tried sign-out-sign-in the app just now, and it worked! The number of "syncing files" became much less after that. However, it stuck at "syncing 147 files". Then I check the syncing files which had been taking a long time, and deleted them (not to worry, they are not important to me), then the problem was solved.
On the other hand, I suppose if I have got some important file with the long-time-sync problem, I can just make a copy before deleting them. So that wouldn't be a problem.
Thank you for your help!

Followed this but there is no cache folder. I am struggling to get some folders to update to make the files available locally, not online. Been having lots of problems with Dropbox the last few days. It says syncing but nothing happens. Local changes not reflected on dropbox.com. Tried reinstalling, tried changing selective sync, even tried copying out the files and . Seems super unstable. Would love to have more verbose command line option to view exacly what the osx app is working on at any given time.

Update. Some of the files in the same folder has icons for both Available offline and Online only. At the same time. That is truly weird.

The menu bar also shows the Syncing icon, and the status says Syncing but it doesnt show the normal number of files it it working on. Do not sure what is going on, if anything. - HannahDropbox Staff
Hey mskogly, thanks for bringing this to our attention.
Can you please let us know which version of the Dropbox app you're running, by hovering over your Dropbox icon, and what your computer's OS version is?
If you give Dropbox full disk access, does it help with the syncing issue?
- mskoglyExplorer | Level 4
OSx v 13.1 (22C65)
Dropbox version 18.4.5678
I believe the access is set correctly. Dropbox is writing to the folders just fine, it is just hung up in some way.
I left it running overnight but it is still in Syncing mode, says synchronizing 1 file, same as when I left work yesterday.

Hello
I have an Intel iMac just updated to Sonoma.
The dropbox appears to work and sync as normal, it's just that the icon on the menu bar at the top of the screen perpetually shows sync.
Anyone else had this issue?
Is there a new build which solves this?
Thank you
- HannahDropbox Staff
Hey Octothorpe, thanks for bringing this to our attention.
Can you share with us the exact sync status and version of the Dropbox app, as shown when you hover over the Dropbox icon in your menu bar?
- OctothorpeExplorer | Level 4
Hey Hannah
It's 183.4.7058
When it first happened with whatever version I had, I downloaded this other version but it still stays perpetually on sync.
Thank you

I accidentally deleted some files and have now gone back to dropbox to a backup prior to the deleted files. I am downloading the deleted files to my laptop. The computer is going very slowly and for the past two days has noted- indexing 2 files, uploading 66 files and downloading 37 files. I initially had about 300,000 files downloading. I have adequate hard drive space and also adequate dropbox storage space remaining. Could it be certain files will now back up? Is is possible for me to review te files not yet backed up? And if they do not back up can I exclude backup of these files?
Thanks!
- HannahDropbox Staff
Hey GLDROP, thanks for bringing this to our attention.
Since it's been a couple of days, can you let us know if you're still having this issue?
If you do and since you mentioned that you have about 300K files in your Dropbox folder, can you use our selective sync feature, to remove some folders from your Dropbox folder and see if it helps the syncing progress?

Hi,
I'm finding that my syncing is stuck at 15,000 roughly, and when looking at the dropbox control panel, it's stating that a few files are "waiting to sync".
I have tried everything at this stage, including;
- Clear dropbox cache
- Restart dropbox
- Delete and re-add files to dropbox
- No syncing issues present
Could anyone help me resolve this? I have just subscribed to a 2TB version for my business and since then it appears none of my files are syncing. I work from home on my PC, where I add, delete and edit files via dropbox, but I need access to the same folders and files when out on site or at our office. I can't fix this issue myself, so any help would be greatly appreciated.
I look forward to a response.
Thank you.

I currently have the above information showing on my tray when I hover over it. It's been stuck here for a few weeks now. I stop syncing and deleted some of the files that were syncing last week, but it's now stuck on the next files which are .mov files. It cycles with different estimated times as well, but doesn't appear to actually be syncing anything at all.
I'm not sure where to find the version of the app. Could you point me in the right direction.
Many thanks.

Hi,
Since early this morning (in France : 12 hours), my files and folders synchronise between my computers and iPhone, but on a Mac book pro (14.1.1 OS) Dropbox keeps on sinking (the icon of Dropbox on toolbar is stalled in sync position).
It has occurred after I unshared a few folders, and affects only one computer (the other device are doing fine)…
It is a bit frightening and annoying too.
Can you help ?
Forgive my clumsy French English !
And I did not find a correct label to this question…
- HannahDropbox Staff
Sorry to hear about this, Michel G.7.
If you simply hover over the Dropbox icon in your menu bar, which version of the app do you see, and what's the exact sync status?
Also, if you click on the Dropbox icon, then on your profile pic and then on "view sync issues", do you see anything there?
- Michel G.7Helpful | Level 7Hi, and thank you,
The version number is : 187.4.5691
The sync status is as on the screen capture : synchronisation (in French).
No sync issues.
