"That didn't work for some reason" error
I was sent ym first dropbox video link in my email. When I click on it it goes to Dropbox and says..." That didn't work for some reason. If it's a fluke refresh the page..." Upon refreshing all it does is repeat this error message. Any smart peeps out there that know what's happening? Thanks for any help you can provide!
- LusilDropbox StaffHi there dawncoachesyou, let's see what we can do here.
Have you tried opening the file from another browser or an incognito window?
If you have and the error message persists, could you send me a screenshot of it?
Give me a shout whenever you have any updates on this, thanks!- JS62New member | Level 2
Having the same issues.... did a clearing of browser history/cache etc. used incognito, took drop box for Gmail off.... nothing worked. still getting the error over and over with no solution.

Was not having any issues opening up any email excel/pdf files with drop box, then we had a windows update wipe everything out. After reloading windows, office, drop box... all of the sudden, links can be opened or accessed. it goes to the webpage and shows a cartoon dog in front of a bowl with text :
That didn't work for some reason
If it's a fluke, it might work if you refresh the page. You can also ask us for help.no chat/call or email from dropbox can fix it.
bought a new computer, loaded drop box.....same issues
the sender was notified that there might be an issue with the link, he resent it and now, it will try to go to the local drop box on the computer but we receive the error mentioned in this tread.
any ideas?
- quennExplorer | Level 3I was emailed and required to download a link on dropbox but when I opened it, it appears on the screen, ‘That didn’t work for some reason’

Hello. I'm getting this error when I attempt to access an audio link for a evaluation for a transcription job. I've seen several similar posts from folks experiencing the exact same issue, though no solutions or reports of resolution have been posted. I've even seen another user's post that included the link. I have the same link but will not post here because I would guess links are privileged information. Here is a screen shot. Is there any record of a user that found resolution for this?

Hey jare1099, thanks for bringing this to our attention.
I have moved your post to this thread, since it's about the same issue.
Have you tried any of the troubleshooting steps provided here, like trying from a different browser or from incognito?
Did you also try to clear your browser's cache?
Let me know.

I had some pics in my dropbox account and have link to that. But that link doesn't work anymore and doesn't show any pics. Instead I get a message as:
"That didn't work for some reason"
How do we get the pics?

This was quite an old link but wonder where the pics gone from this link. Nothing in deleted files as well.
We really need to get access to these pics. - RichSuper User II

Was this a link that was sent to you by someone else, or was this a link that you created?
If the link was given to you by someone else, then you were likely viewing the files directly from their account. If those files were removed or the link deleted, it would no longer be valid and you would need to contact the person that sent you the link.
If you created the link yourself, then it sounds like the files were either removed or deleted and the link is no longer valid. You would need to locate the files directly within your account. Have you tried searching for them on the Dropbox website?

It was a link shared by us. We don't see in that account anymore. We certainly have not deleted it from cloud and not sure where our files have gone. Does dropbox delete the files on its own if they are not used for sometime?

I've been sent some files from a film processing lab, which I have used before, to download my photos from dropbox, but I keep getting the following error when clicking on the link, I've tried refreshing the page, and also tried on both on laptop and mobile phone - neither of which seem to work.
- MeganDropbox Staff
Hey dansemacabre, let's jump right into this!
Could you try to open the link, using a different browser than the one you did before?
Also, is there any chance, that the person that sent you the link has either moved, or deleted the content or shared link?
Let me know more, and we'll take it from there!

What's the error message?
- rashidatkamalNew member | Level 2
this is the error message "That didn't work for some reason If it's a fluke, it might work if you refresh the page. You can also ask us for help".

i had the same issue. clicked a link i was sent and the "that didnt work for some reason.." popped up. what do you suggest.?
- WalterDropbox Staff
Hey adamw, sorry to hear about this.
If you've cleared your browser's cache and tried another browser and still get the same error, I'd suggest reaching out to the owner of the shared link and ensure that they're following these steps.
Let us know of any updates!
