File access
528 TopicsOption to automatically lock a file.
We constantly have issues with conflicted copies! Yes - even though there is the badge that shows up, and even though file locking is an option if done manually. I've done research and MANY other systems support this feature. I've been a long-time Dropbox user, but am looking aggressively at changing due to this issue. It shouldn't have to be a manual process to prevent someone else from opening the same file I am currently working on and saving a conflicted copy. Who would remember to do a manual file lock each and every time they open a document?!29Views0likes1CommentI'd like a feature that allows me to secure a folder of files with a password for extra protection.
It would be a great idea to implement an extra layer of protection to be able to hide certain files or be able to lock them with a set password within the app since I experience multiple users on multiple machines of mine being able to access most of the files. Therefor I would really benefit from a folder I can lock with my personal password and therefor hide sensitive information or files that should not be accessed by other users but me. I would suggest calling it something like Vault or Hidden Files. This could also be done via integration through the apps, let people decide if they want to install the vault feature or not.67Views2likes5Comments'Invalid password' error when opening password-protected files
I have many files that are password protected. I have had them for years and have never had trouble accessing them. My password is stored in a password vault, and I have never touched or changed it. Now, every file I try to open says "invalid password," even though I'm copying it from my password vault. This happens on my phone, my Dropbox app on my Mac, and in Dropbox.com in the Safari browser. How can I access my files!!??Solved68Views0likes5CommentsEnable create and rename folders/files on MacOS Dropbox application for admin users
After a recent dropbox update, at the top level, admin users are unable to create and rename files on their desktop dropbox application for Mac users (OS version: Sequoia 15.3.2). This slight change has made it more of a hassle to use the desktop app, it makes it appear obsolete to be honest. My team needs a number of folders to created frequently as we get new cases quite frequently. After the new update, as the admin user, I have to navigate to my web browser in order to create a folder and then come back to my desktop app to add all the relevant documents into that folder. If I make a mistake in the name of the folder, I can't change the name of the folder I have to go back to web browser, find the folder and then change it from there. It is such that even as an admin user on my computer, when I go to unlock the folder at the top level to give me read and write access, it automatically switches back as it is something that has been enabled from the software and not the user end. I could see the justification for having this restriction for non-admin users but for admin users whose job description requires the creation and modification of top level files, it has added an additional step in work flow that is cumbersome. In the past, all these could be done directly from the desktop app. I would like to request that the feature be put back as it was. The new change is not user friendly at all.133Views3likes10CommentsMy files are missing from my account
I have shared access to a clients files but I could switch over to my own dropbox which I have had for years. All my photos are there. I have just tried to view them and they are no longer there. I thought they would maybe be under another email address but dropbox is saying it doesn't recognise that address. Can anyone help please?27Views0likes3CommentsHow can I remove files from my account to free up space and save them to an external drive?
Dear smart people, I want to free up space in Dropbox by deleting files there. Can someone explain how to put the contents (mostly word documents and some photos) of my current Dropbox onto an external hard drive in case I need something in the future? Step by step instructions I mean. I don't know how to do it, but am also concerned that the copied files could disappear from the external hard drive when I then delete them from my Dropbox account. Is that possible? I use Dropbox from a laptop computer. I looked at past discussion posts but they're all too complicated. Thank you SO much for your help!31Views0likes1CommentDropbox Finder Extension not showing correct status
I recently had the Dropbox Finder Extension show some items in my Dropbox as available. Not synced. I restarted Dropbox. No change. I quit the Dropbox Finder extension. That didn't help. I quit and restarted Finder. Now my Dropbox items have nothing beside them. I did a full computer restart. My Dropbox items STILL have nothing beside them. Did I find a bug? Or did I just kaput my install?122Views0likes14CommentsAbility to delete files from the Signatures tab and see which team members can access them.
Dropbox signature feature - the long list of signed files on this page on dropbox.com is not transparent enough. There's no clear way to tell quickly and easily who has permission to view these files. This can be worrying for an Admin! Also, I can't delete / remove these files. When I click on the 3 dots I can only download and preview. Dropbox support confirmed the only way to delete the file is to open each one and delete from there. This is not practical with hundreds of documents being signed. We need to be able to clear / tidy this list easily - bulk delete would be awesome. Thank you.28Views0likes2CommentsQR codes needed for shared files
Hey there Sam, Any new word on this QR code discussion? I am needing to create physical notebooks for co-counsels and some exhibits are too big to print and put into a notebook/binder. QR codes seemed like the way to go. I know I can still do it using a different QR Generator, but it sure would be cool to do this directly with Dropbox. Is there some other tool I can use for this kind of situation that I don't know about yet? Thanks a million!83Views0likes5Comments
