Free team disbanded by Dropbox
Hi Team,
Can someone please help with an email I received as below? Not sure what it all means
The ???? Limited team has been disbanded by Dropbox. Your team’s folders have been converted to shared folders, and all ??? Limited groups have been deleted. Your account has been converted to a personal Dropbox plan.
Reason I ask is that we had a colleague that left our company under bad terms.
Many thanks in advance.

Well from what I can see Teams is no more? however, I do have paid Personal Plus, was Business Teams albeit free one I think.
Now, having two computers here, now shows my personal account on one with no teams, and the other has the teams account and no personal. Talk about confused.
- MarkSuper User II
They've been unlinked so Teams wont work anymore. It means unless you are a paid Business user you cannot connect two accounts together and so can only have one on each computer at a time.

I have two Dropbox (DB) accounts - one personal and one business, both set up with separate email accounts and passwords. Last night, without warning, I received an email from DB stating that my business team had been disbanded by DB, the team's folders were converted to shared folders, and all of my business groups were deleted and converted to a personal DB plan. This morning I received a text box on my desktop screen stating that my business DB account was removed from my computer because my accounts were unlinked, but that my files were not deleted. There was not any information on how to link the accounts or the opportunity to do so. This all came without any warning or notification of a change, or the option to link accounts.
Now I find that:
- Through the DB icon/app on my desktop, I no longer have access to my business DB, but I can access my personal DB there. Same with the DB icon/app on my phone.
- I do have access to my business DB on my laptop, through the app/icon, but I cannot access my personal DB there.
Yesterday I could easily access both accounts from all of my devices and copy and paste documents as needed between them. Today I have no way of copying and pasting documents between the two separate accounts. I have no idea how to get documents from one account to the other now. I realize I can access both accounts by going to Dropbox.com, but to constantly have to download all of the documents I need, make changes, and then somehow upload the files back into the same or a different DB account while also logging out of one account and into another is a time blackhole!
I use DB every day, but I am not computer or tech savvy. Any wisdom from this group is greatly appreciated.

Hi At_Altitude
There is now no way to link the two accounts on one desktop account unless one is a paid for Business plan. Multiple emails have gone out about this over the past few months with info showing at https://help.dropbox.com/teams-admins/team-member/free-teams-overview

Thank you, Mark. I found the email...unfortunately it was in with the 10+ emails I get a day from DB and I missed it.

Help! I thought the DB notice said that when TEAMS ended our folders would still be available but I couldn't access them. Luckily I had them backed up. I had a large capacity non-TEMS acct to which I added the TEAMS acct years ago when it was available. I copied my backed up folders to that acct but had to re-invite all the sharers. DB seems to think this is a business acct because it prompted me to open a free personal acct. I also took the offer of a free trial STANDARD business acct. So now I'm completely confused as to which acct is which and where my files are. One says have 5TB the other has 2TB -- but is there a way to see how much is used in each? My previous non-TEAMS acct had much more than 2TB because I got all my clients to join.
Is there any way to get help directly from Dropbox support?

+1 on this issue. Sounds like what I'm experiencing might be related.
I also had a business account in the past, for my own small business. I downgraded that account to personal when I closed the business.
As of today, I can sign into dropbox.com as expected. If I try to log into paper.dropbox.com with the exact same credentials, I get a dead end telling me "You are not a member of the team anymore". What team? That paradigm only made sense when I was a business user, right? O_o
I spent 30 minutes on chat support earlier today trying to get this resolved. We didn't get it resolved and now it's been "escalated" to email. I'm hoping to hear back soon! I'm in the middle of wedding planning and all my stuff is in Dropbox Paper!

See the problem I reported yesterday. Now my files don't seem to be synching: Changes I make on my hard drive are not appearing online. I can't find any way to tell DB which directory it is supposed to be synching with. Help?

Hello,
Today I got this message:
business dropbox removed
Your business Dropbox account was
removed from this computer because
your accounts were unlinked. Your files
have not been deleted.I can access my account online but I cannot link it to my dropbox app that has my personal account!!!
How can I link it back so I can have my files.
I am also not so fond of the sea that I cannot contact support by email or phone this is very disturbing.
Kind Regards,
Vic

Hi VicNic
Lots of messages and emails have gone out about this - Dropbox no longer supports linking of accounts on one computer unless one of the accounts is a paid business one. You can see info https://help.dropbox.com/teams-admins/team-member/free-teams-overview.
The ONLY way to now link is to have a paid for business licence with multiple users as part of the plan.
To access your other account you can use the website to log on instead.

Hi Mark,
I beg to differ re communication. I have gone back over all my emails and notifications within the app and I have received nothing relating to it. Maybe as I was the administrator I didn't get a message but still this is pretty poor communication.
Also I still have not been able to locate the folder within my plus account. I can only see it if I log in online. This was in my original query.
I have been a big fan of Dropbox since its inception. This has just left a sour taste in my mouth and I am loath to be pushed into paying over $100 more a year to upgrade when I can probably just use our office one drive account or iCloud.
- SpdemuroExplorer | Level 4Dropbox has decided to stop allowing having two simultaneous accounts.
I can understand if it was for all-free accounts, but not even family or plus subscriptions can coexist with one another.
The only option they now give is to have one of them as a business account, which requires at least three users.
This is not only inconvenient, but plainly stupid. They made everything a little worse for everybody, and they didn’t even give you a viable choice.
In my case, I should upgrade from a 10usd plan to a 45usd one with two unused users, for example.
It’s really frustrating, after all these years, to star looking for another solution to migrate everything, or having to install a third party hack for something that was perfectly functional.- mp84New member | Level 2
It would be great if dropbox could make the feature accessible to freelance users, who'd like to separate their business (for solo workers) & personal accounts, but want have simultaneous access to both. This feature is currently only available for business accounts to link to personal accounts, and the business account comes with a minimum of three users and is too costly for a single freelance individual.
- WalterDropbox StaffThis idea is going to need a bit more support before we share your suggestion with our team. We’ve updated the status to encourage more users to back you up!
- JayDropbox StaffHi MikeMp3, thanks for bringing this to our attention.
Recently, support for free teams has ended, so most likely your free team was disbanded due to this reason.
Your account hasn't been affected in any way, so you should still be able to use it.
If you need any further assistance, please let me know!- MikeMp3Explorer | Level 3
Hi Jay,
Hope you are well and safe!
We had a paid subscription so just a little worried someone is accessing our files?
Many thanks for your quick response .
Have a great day and keep your head down.
Kind regards.
MikeMp3.
- JayDropbox StaffIt sounds like the payment for the team wasn't renewed, hence why it has reverted to a personal account.
Were you the user who paid for the upgrade or was it another user?

I also received this message about my team being disbanded and that my new account has been converted to a personal Dropbox plan. I do not see my files in my folder.

Hello,
I literally just received this message & I am terrified that I won't be able to retrieve the data that was stored in dropbox & on my C drive which was also dropbox. See the message below:
PLEASE HELP
Hi Kira, The GEDF, Inc. team has been disbanded by Dropbox. Your team’s folders have been converted to shared folders, and all GEDF, Inc. groups have been deleted. Your account has been converted to a personal Dropbox plan.

I also just received an email notification that our team has been disbanded. The linked article says we should have received a notification to take appropriate action 30 days ago, but that was never received. I don't know why DropBox would take such an extreme action like this without properly giving notice, and now I'm also concerned that our data is gone. Please advise.

I just received an email from dropbox saying that my ex was disbanded by dropbox. i currently have a restraining order on him and I need to contact dropbox. Does anyone have a phone number for customer service?
- MarkSuper User II
It was almost certainly disbanded due to https://help.dropbox.com/teams-admins/team-member/free-teams-overview. It is nothing to do with the restraining order.
This is simply Dropbox unlinking and closing Teams which are free. Nothing else.
In terms of phone support unless you are a paid business user there isnt any (and if you were you'd not be getting this message as its only free accounts impacted).

My business account was unlinked from my personal account and I do not have access to the business email anymore. I should have changed earlier but failed to do so.
How do I access that account now?
I also do not remember the password as I would switch automatically on my computer, but my files are gone.
- MarkSuper User II
Without access to the email there is no way to regain access to an account I'm afraid if you cannot remember the password etc.
https://help.dropbox.com/teams-admins/team-member/free-teams-overview
HOWEVER you should be able to still log in with the email and password as that info hasnt changed - all that has is the linking of the two accounts
- gustavor001New member | Level 2
When were we going to be informed about that?
The account is disconnected overnight and now all my data is gone?

My Personal account was a PLUS plan and was connected to my Team account. When Teams was disbanded on me today, my Personal account was knocked down to Basic. When I look at my account, it shows Current Plan as Basic, but right below that is shows "Personal Dropbox space Using 166 GB of 2.01 TB" Can anyone tell me what's going on?

.....
Yep, I've seen this happen before. Our club uses (soon to be used) the free teams and I had one club member that purchased Pro for themselves, only to find that when they did the purchase it was done whilst the accounts were linked and the account that the purchase was then recorded against was the teams account giving just that account in teams the benefit of pro.
We learnt the lesson and always de-linked before purchasing the pro license and then re-linking, never found a way to fix the one that was wrong though.
This used to be a work-around in Teams too. You could remove an account from the team, purchase pro license just for that account, and add the account back to teams resulting in that one account having the space needed without going full business.

I have two accounts, a personal and a business. Both free.
Now I got this message: Business Dropbox removed Your buiness Dropbox account was removed from this computer because your accounts were unliked. Your files have not been deleted.
So. My Business Dropbox is gone from my computer. I have tried to link them again (Settings>General>Link accounts) but though I enter my mail and password, nothing happens.
Anyone who can help?
- MarkSuper User II
I'm afraid this is correct. Dropbox no longer supports the linking of free Dropbox accounts. If you want to link both accounts on your computer one needs to become a paid for Business account:

Thanks for your explanation, just to adjust.
