Issue with the Dropbox application v52 (freezing/ crashing) on Mac devices.
Recently I noticed Dropbox.app is not running on my MacBook Pro (El Capitan).
When I run following command on a terminal,
$ /Applications/Dropbox.app/Contents/MacOS/Dropbox
many messages are listed, and after a while, it stops as follows.
..... dropbox: thread d0eb58 is not a python thread
Segmentation fault: 11
The version is the latest version which I downloaded from the site today.
Any suggestions?
OK! Would it be possible for any of you that presented this issue to give this beta a try and report back here whether or not the issue persists for you?
Thanks!

Hi,
Today my Dropbox has updaded to the latest version ( 52.4.58 ) and immediately stopped working. It simply crashes a few second after launching.
I was able to install some previous builds ( 51.4.66 & 50.4.71 ) and they worked, but after a small amount of time they autoupdate themself and crash.
The latest beta version ( 53.3.64 ) also crashes on start.
If there any way to prevent the app from updating (I didn't find any working solutions for that) ?
Here is a screeenshot of the crashed thread
- LusilDropbox StaffHey k0t2004The Dropbox desktop application is required to update so as to keep the desktop app functioning. Furthermore, the screenshot reads “Send to Apple” and so I’d recommend sending this issue to them in case they could offer additional troubleshooting steps for you. However, I’d like to further assist you, and so I’ve made a few suggestions to see if any of these will do the trick.Since you’ve tried a few installers of previous versions, I’d ensure that they aren’t affecting the installation process by unlinking your device from all of the previous versions. Then, try out the offline installer and also check if there are any third-party apps that might be blocking/hindering the installation process, like an antivirus.I hope these help. Let me know how it goes!

I was able to install the previous version ( 51.4.66 ) by doing the following:
1) Download the previous offline installer
2) Turn off the Internet connection
3) Install it.
4) Navigate to yout Application folder, right click on the DropBox.app and select Show Package Contents.
5) Then go to Contents/Resources/ and select DropboxMacUpdate.app
6) Right click on the it and select Show Package Contents
7) Go to Contents/MacOS and delete the file inside that folder.
Now turn on the Internet connection and you are done. You have the previously working version and it can't update itself.
This is definately a DropBox bug and it appered today on two El Capitan machines.
So please, someone resend it to the DropBox QA team.

Same issue here on 10.11.6 (El Capitan).
Noticed it on June 20, 2018
Day 5 of no Dropbox.
Dropbox had worked just fine till last Thursday.
I cannot open the Dropbox desktop app anymore. The Dropbox icon has disappeared from the menu bar.
It is still possible to start the app as long as I am not connected to the internet. The second I establish a connection to the internet the app crashes.

Ever since June 2018 my Mac (OS X 10.10.5) stopped syncing with my dropbox folder on my desktop. I have unistalled it with Clean my Mac, and then download and reinstalled it, it now appears in my Apps folder (201MB) but when I double click on it to open, nothing happens.
Also lost the icon on my Finder top menu where it used to be. So I cant open the app to access the settings for the app and log in, etc.
BTW a grayed out dropdown menu appears on any finder window, but says no options available?

I have the same problem. The suggested solutions did not work.
To show you how the problem looks like, I have this video: https://vimeo.com/276867350
The problem only occurs with Yosemite 10.10.5 – newer versions do work (but some software is not compatible with newer versions, so I have to use Yosemite).
I have asked the support for help (on Thursday 21th June 2018 ); until now (Monday 25th June 2018 ) I have now answer. I am a paying customer (Dropbox Plus).
So I hope there will be a fix soon.
All the best
- JayDropbox StaffHi there, it sounds like the Dropbox desktop application isn’t working as it should, so I’d recommend a clean, advanced reinstall of the app to see if this helps.Let me know how it goes!

I have an identical problem.
Running MacOS X 10.10.5 Yosemite on a MacBook Pro Early-2011 still in top shape.
I've been a happy Dropbox user since at least 8 years. Then suddenly it stopped working.
I tried Jay's solution and did a clean advanced reinstall of the desktop app.
Twice.
Every time, double clicking on the installer makes the Dropbox icon appear in the top menu bar, but it's greyed out and stays there for a few seconds before disappearing completely.
Below are my latest console logs relating to Dropbox, hoping they could provide helpful info (I notice geeky names: "garçon" and "café" ;-) ):

I am having the same problem, but I am on Mac OS X 10.11.6 (El Capitan).
Dropbox had worked just fine till last Thursday.
I cannot open the Dropbox app anymore. The Dropbox icon has disappeared from the menu bar.
It is still possible to start the app as long as I am not connected to the internet. The second I establish a connection to the internet the app crashes.
Could it be possible that the problem is caused by the latest security update of Mac OS X (2018-003)? The problems with the Dropbox desktop app have started since I installed the update.
Has anyone else, who is facing problems with the Dropbox app, installed the latest Mac OS X update?
- bwaExplorer | Level 3
Yes, like MVL - I am using OSX 10.11.16, so it it not just limited to Yosimite but also el capitan.
I talked to support friday and my ticket had "priority" but I have still not heard anything as of 9:00am PST on June, 25. My guess is they are working something. I will check in later today and provide updates here.

Hey teranisi - sorry to hear about this.
Would you mind if I reached out to you via email in order to have a more in depth look into this and find what's causing your issue?
In the meantime, could you please give our offline installer a go and also see if there are any antivirus, firewall or proxy/security settings that could be causing this?
If I were you, just in case, I would also take a look here for more information about this and some common troubleshooting suggestions.
I hope this helps and please let me know what you find. Thank you in advance for your reply!

I have OS X 10.9.3 on a mac mini and the Dropbox client worked well until the latest update to 52.4.58 was installed yesterday automatically.
When I delete the 52.4.58 client and install the older 50.4.71 version (this is the version I have found somewhere else), the client starts correct but updates itself to 52.4.58 which causes segmentation fault when restarted.
22.06.18 16:04:54,435 Dropbox[6693]: ApplePersistence=NO 22.06.18 16:04:56,459 com.apple.launchd.peruser.502[728]: (com.getdropbox.dropbox.138192[6693]) Job appears to have crashed: Segmentation fault: 11 22.06.18 16:04:57,518 ReportCrash[6708]: Saved crash report for Dropbox[6693] version 52.4.58 (52.4.58) to /Users/rs/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports/Dropbox_2018-06-22-160457_120600S0.crash
So I cannot use Dropbox on my mac systems without preventing the client to update itself. But I do not know how to block the automatic updates :-(

Hey Robert (VerTex) - thanks for reporting this.
Sorry to hear about this cumbersome situation - let me give you some context about this.
The Dropbox desktop client has a helper process called “DropboxMacUpdate” which checks for version updates from time to time. DropboxMacUpdate is a process that must exist on any computer on which Dropbox has been installed.
What it does is this: it runs during the installation of the Dropbox desktop application, and requires access to the Internet so as to check for the latest version and update Dropbox to the latest version if needed.
Please note that this process must be allowed to run if you wish to install and use the Dropbox desktop application on your computer and more information can be found on the following Help Center article.
Having said that, I would really like to help with this, so please give our offline installer a go while temporarily disabling any antivirus or security programs on your computer as they might be interfering with our software. Please let me know how this goes and we'll take it from there.
Thank you.

Hi! I get exactly the same error. I have contacted the support team 4 days ago, and I am still waiting. Can you help me too, please? I really need dropbox for work! Thanks!

Hello everyone
When I try to launch Dropbox on my mac (OS: 10.12), I receive the following error:
dropbox: load fq extension '/Applications/Dropbox.app/Contents/Resources/python-resources/CFNetwork._manual.cpython-35m-darwin.so' [23475:12271273:20180624,162348.753847:INFO thread_snapshot_mac.cc:279] dropbox: thread bb3eb2 is not a python thread Segmentation fault: 11
Please see attached files for the full log.
Re-installing didn't work. Do you have any ideas?
- adamdzHelpful | Level 6I have several users with El Capitan. Dropbox won't launch on their Macs. I'm upgrading them to High Sierra to see if that helps.
