We've had a Dropbox account for years, but I hadn't installed it on my MacBook Air because I was afraid that it would take up too much space. Since we're having trouble with OneDrive, we decided to use Dropbox and I installed it and then made all of my files online only. However, now more than 100GB of my 256GB drive is full with system data, most of which wasn't there before. Is there something that Dropbox leaves behind when copying files from OneDrive to Dropbox? Is there anything I can do about it?Solved31Views0likes5CommentsOnline-only not working in Surface Pro 11 (Snapdragon version)
Recently I went back to Dropbox having read that it now works with Snapdragon Windows versions, but currently I have a significant issue. I cannot have any online-only file in my SP11, thus I cannot have all Dropbox files in my device. I have this in the main DP screen: Then I go to "Manage hard disk space", select folders and make online-only. In less than a second I get the message they are online-only, but they aren't. Any idea how to solve this? Thanks in advance.475Views2likes20CommentsCorrect the 'sharelink' description in the Linux commands documentation
The table at https://help.dropbox.com/installs/linux-commands#What-Linux-commands-are-available-on-Dropbox says, about the sharelink command: sharelink dropbox sharelink FILE This prints out a shared link for FILE. FILE Absolute path to FILE ...But that's not correct. FILE doesn't have to be an absolute path, it can be any path (relative or absolute) that points to a file in the Dropbox folder. For example: dropbox sharelink $HOME/Dropbox/MyDocument.odt Outputs a share link like https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/$IDENTIFIER1/MyDocument.odt?rlkey=$IDENTIFIER2&dl=0 cd $HOME/Dropbox dropbox sharelink MyDocument.odt Outputs the same share link cd $HOME dropbox sharelink Dropbox/MyDocument.odt Still the same share link as the previous two commands (Also, side note, what's the point of providing a post editor with the ability to insert tables and code snippets, if this is going to happen when we hit "Publish"?) OS: Windows 10 22H2 Dropbox version: v220.4.4126 Problem: Default Sync State For New Files cannot be changed When I click it to "Available offline" and close-open setting again it's back to "online-only". Also there is no option to make file always available offline. Please help. I've already tried advanced uninstall and install again. I'm using Selective Sync11Views0likes0CommentsWhy was the way screenshots were handled changed?
Me and my friends question what drove the people behind this software to break something intentionally like that? I work as a Quality Assurance expert, and can only see this change as sabotage. When I press "PrtSc" I want the image to be copied into my clipboard. The fact that it was saved into the screenshots folder wasn't always desired, but I could deal with it (always cleaned up that folder once a month). But now that doesn't happen. I get so many extra steps, and if I opt out of it, I'm left with nothing. Sure, I could just install a different software for making screenshots, but that seems so stupid to do, given what worked before!50Views1like5CommentsI changed my user name after installing the Dropbox app and now it won't launch
I have a new laptop (MacBook Air - M4), running the latest Sequoia. I migrated everything over from my former system, which included Dropbox. Day-1, all was running fine. Day-2, I needed to change the names of the System Users. I followed the instructions from Apple, which includes changing the home folder name in "Users" and then the corresponding account name field(s) in System Settings, Users & Groups, The home folder path on Day-1, with the original name, was /Users/keri_1/ On Day-2 -- after the renaming -- the new (& current) home folder path is /Users/keri/ Now when I launch DropBox, it is looking for this path to grant permissions: /Users/keri_1/.dropbox and immediately gives the message that "Dropbox needs to change permissions for the Folder: /Users/keri_1/.dropbox" which it cannot find since that path name no longer exists. Clicking OK, the next message I get is "Couldn't start Dropbox" and it shuts down. How do I get DropBox to correct the path it is trying to use? I have contacted Support and we have exchanged several emails, including some Terminal commands to run, which did not correct this issue.11Views0likes1CommentHow do I share or link files between two Windows computers?
I have two desktop computers: 1) 500GB Windows 11 SSD w/ 12% storage remaining, and 2) 1TB Windows 10 SSD w/ 33% storage remaining. Two years ago I disabled Dropbox from the 500GB computer after a first attempt to use Dropbox: it duplicated my files and threw them back onto the hard drive, leaving me with just 7GB on it (somehow I was able to get 50GB back, can't remember how). This year I decided to give Dropbox another try, I read and read and read every Dropbox instructions I could, set my 1TB computer to Cloud Only, and am OK with that machine. Now if I re-enable Dropbox on my 500GB computer, setting it to Cloud Only, can I be confident files won't be plugging up the hard drive again? And assuming I can share/link files between the two computers, how do I do that? And are there dangers of plugging things up again if I do?Solved67Views0likes5CommentsDamaged files on the Dropbox desktop app on MacOS Sequoia
Several pdf files stored in my DropBox account are listed as having 0kb files sizes when viewing them on desktop. I am unable to open them in a browser or Acrobat. Via dropbox.com, these same files are fine - downloadable and viewable, etc. There is no issue with file size constraints - all files are well within this account's storage capacity. I have removed and re-installed the desktop app with no change to the above. This is on OSX Sequoia. Any insight into why this is occuring would be helpful. It's a basic account, so Dropbox punts on technical support.Solved36Views0likes4CommentsI didn't unlink my old devices and now I've reached the 3-device limit. How can I remove them?
I owned two computers. I had installed Dropbox basic on both. Then I recently purchased two new, replacement computers and trashed those old ones (before unlinking the Dropbox account from either one). I realize now (and I should have realized then) what a stupid thing that was. I downloaded the Dropbox app and installation went fine on one of the new, replacement computers. When I attempted to install Dropbox on the second new computer, I received a message that said I already had reached the maximum 3 computers linked to my Dropbox account. Since the old computers no longer exist, is there now any way to Unlink those devices from my Dropbox account?Solved31Views0likes3Comments
