Can't access a folder: 'This folder does not exist' error

Hi experts,

I have a strange issue with one of my folders. If I try to view the /Public/Samples folder online, regardless which browser (FireFox / Edge), I only get an error message "The folder ‘/Public/Samples’ doesn’t exist.".

I use dropbox for many years, I never had issues with that folder. In there are a lot of files which I share with the Microsoft Community.

On my home PC I use the DropBox-App and I can still sync with that folder / upload files and create links for download, anything works well, e.g.:

https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/yjm7h82fe45aep45258jo/7894fb94-4f68-4b2b-9aeb-6ab221b2e9b0.xlsx?rlkey=68qde5cmt9fnk66ddo47p5d6r&dl=1

There is another subfolder in the Samples folder and I can view that folder online without any problems!

Any suggestions?

EDIT: I've looked around and found that some other subfolders are showing the same error message, but others seem to be working fine... very strange.

Andreas.

Hey Andreas K.25, sorry to hear you're having issues with this.

Could you please clear your browser's cache and/or try another browser, preferably with no extensions or plugins running and let me know if you get the same error?

If you do, I'd appreciate a screenshot too.

    Thanks!

      Walter,

Thank you for taking care of my problem.

I have this issue on different PC with different OS and different browsers. I cleared the cookies / cache on Edge and Firefox / AddOns disabled, the issue persists.

      Here is the screenshot:
      https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/axh6i294zi4pacw0guet0/Screenshot.png?rlkey=bzpodiz9awq8kn4scfambh03p&dl=0

I've marked all folders I can not access with a red arrow, all others work as usual. The subfolder "Save as CSV UTF-8" also works as usual.

Everything worked fine until about a few days/weeks ago, the error came up for the first time today. Give me a sign if you need more information.

      Andreas.

Instead of a link, could you attach a screenshot in your reply Andreas K.25 ?

To do so, you can click on the camera icon (insert photos option) within your reply's box.

    I have a file path home/HOA Reports/Reports/2021

I can see and open the HOA Reports folder

With the suggested shortcuts I can jump straight to the home/HOA Reports/Reports/2021 folder
However if I try to navigate to the home/HOA Reports/Reports folder, I get a "The folder ‘/HOA Reports/Reports’ doesn’t exist." message.

Any ideas on how to fix this, short of jumping into each subfolder and moving it to a new folder?

Hi jcicora, I hope you're doing well!

Is it safe to assume, since you mentioned navigating to Home, that you're referring to the Home page of your account online?

If you use an entirely different browser, do you get the same results there? What results do you get when searching for the Folder name, using our searchbar?

Let me know more, and we'll take it from there!

        Megan,

You are correct,  I was referencing from the Home page of my online account.

I typically use Firefox, however using Chrome had the same results.

The Reports folder would show in the suggested search results, however clicking on the result returned the same "...does not exist..." error

Downloaded files from a folder as recently as a week ago. Now getting message that the folders in which the files were parked no longer exist. I can see the folder icons. But when I click on them I get the message.

Hi JayC1, let's jump right into this please!

As a first step, can you let me know if you're possibly referring to a shared link? Is this where you downloaded files from?

Also, where do you see this specific message? Is it online, when you try to locate the content? Let me know more, and we'll take it from there.

      Thanks!

        Hi Megan

It is the only folder of the bunch that has a mulyi=person icon on the folder, so i must have shared it at some point. However, it says that I'm the only one with access.

        Here's the main file batch

        here's the next click

And here's what happens when I click on one of the sub files

As I mentioned, I accessed a few files earlier this week. Now, however, I fear I'm going to have to re-create a semester's worth of Louisiana History class. Other course files (Civics, Geography, etc.) are working fine.

Thanks for looking into this for me--I'm a bit panicked. Been working with Dropbox for years and never had something like this.

Some shared folder in my Dropbox is not opening. I can see those folders in my flies list. But whenever I am trying to open it, it says "Folder Does not exists". I am facing this problem when accessing Dropbox web using a browser (Chrome, Mozilla). But when I am accessing Dropbox through my iPhone using the Dropbox app, the folders and their content are still there. Can anyone face the same problem? Any idea to fix this. Thanks

Hi debasissadhukhan, thanks for bringing this to our attention.

Are you trying to access the folder while logged into your Dropbox account directly on the browser?

Are you certain that the URL is correct when trying to open it?

Any other info or screenshots (while hiding personal details) would be helpful!

        Hello,

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I am trying to directly access the folders from the Chrome browser. I am just double-clicking on the folder that I want to access, so I am not sure what do you mean by "Are you certain that the URL is correct when trying to open it ".

The following are the screenshots. I am trying to access the Debarka S folder under ID cards (Fig 1), then a error massage (Fig 2) is popped up. But when I just created another folder named "ALL" under "ID Cards", and moved everything from "ID Cards" to "All", everything is working. It is only when the folders are directly under "ID Cards" I am trying to open, the error massage is poping up.

I have been noticing this issue for the last several weeks that whenever I try to create a new folder in Dropbox - the page "refreshes" to my Dropbox home page and I get an error message at the bottom of the page that says the folder does not exist. However, if you click on the back button of the browser, you go back to the page you were at before, and you can clearly see that the folder has been created.  Attached is a screen recording showing this problem.

Here you can see I tried to create a sub-folder called "Test", and got the toast at the bottom that said "Folder created"  but then instead of opening that sub-folder, the page refreshed to the Dropbox home page and I got another toast at the bottom that said the folder does not exist.

Surprised that for such a costly service, blatant bugs like these are not caught and fixed immediately.

Hi Nix-X, let's jump right into this!

Surprisingly, this rings a bell. I've merged your post, under a similar thread of users reporting the same behavior.

Could you try the troubleshooting steps mentioned throughout, and let me know if you notice any difference?

      Thanks a bunch!

        Hi Megan

It's not really productive to have to dig through 5 pages of threads to determine where these troubleshooting steps are located. If there is a widely accepted solution that works for everyone, it should be pinned to the topic page in the community, or at least page 1 of the threads here. All I can see in these threads are several users complaining about the same problem.

Either way, if you were referring to the first post by Walter on page 1 - Re: The folder ‘/Public/Samples’ doesn’t exist. - Dropbox Community (dropboxforum.com), yes, I had tried these steps already and they didn't work.
