Two-step verification does not turn off

Problem report from an 11-year Dropbox user - currently at the Dropbpox Basic level (as my company has a Dropbox Advanced plan).

I typically login to Dropbox Basic using latest Chrome version on Windows.  My account normally has two-step verification Disabled.  But yet I am often required to enter an emailed code anyway to complete the login.

For months now, this happens whenever all Dropbox related cookies have been erased in the Chrome browser.  (Easy to re-create using Incognito / InPrivate windows.)

This typically does not happen when I just sign out via the Dropbox menu.  Then the next time I login, there is no two-step verification, in accordance with my settings.

  • Hi Entranced, thanks for bringing this to our attention.

This is a security measure when a user attempts to login from a new location or browser. Removing the cookies would have the same effect as what you're experiencing.

Currently, it isn't possible to disable this verification method.

If you have any further queries, feel free to message back.

Thanks.  Currently, with my setting of Disabled, this is an inconvenience / annoyance type issue.

(Whenever I need security beyond strong password, I change that setting to Enabled.)

I don't want two step verification. It is turned off yet still required. This defeats the purpose for me. How do I resolve this issue?
