- FireChief11 months agoHelpful | Level 5For me at least it is saving a html version of the page to a PDF. Previously it saved the reader view if you were using that version in Safari. You can save a reader view as a PDF to files but I can’t save anything except the html version as a PDF to Dropbox.

Hey FireChief 👋🏽
Just wanted to check in and see if you're still having any issues after updating to our latest version 362.7. Let us know!
Thanks,
Sam

Fixed with the latest update! Thanks.
- FireChief11 months agoHelpful | Level 5Yes it was upgraded when I replied previously. Before the iOS17 update you were able to save PDFs of the pages as seen in reader view. A black background with white text. No ads, only the text of the page. Now you can save the page but it is saved as it would be seen if it was not in reader view. I am saving the page while looking at it in reader view. Before the last Dropbox update you could not save the page at all. Now you can save the page, but not as you see it in reader view. Now you get a saved version with all the ads and blank white spaces. Just like if you printed a web page years ago before reader view was invented.

I have this same error. I have 362.7 running and IoS 17.3. cannot save pdfs in Safari to DropBox. "couldnt save your content" error...

Everyone experiencing this behavior, you should be able to use "Save to Files", when choosing a "Reader PDF", which, using the File Provider, will save just the .pdf, as a workaround.
- FireChief11 months agoHelpful | Level 5Yes saving to files has always worked. This does not allow me to save a reader view to Dropbox. I do not want to have to save things to two different systems.
- Moondoggie11 months agoNew member | Level 2
"Save to Files" has never worked very well at all in IoS for file exploring the "save to" destination - not your fault - but that is why this bug is an important fix
- vesuvana11 months agoHelpful | Level 5I just noticed that whether I choose Automatic or Reader PDF when saving from Safari or Pocket on iOS 17.3.1, to Dbx 362.7.4 I get text and sidebar elements overlapping, which makes the document unreadable. This happens whether I am trying to save to Dbx as a regular webpage or from black and white Reader view. I have a photo example but I can't see how to attach it to this post.
So the initial error message/ inability to save from Safari, which was briefly fixed, has been replaced with another problem for me.

Hey vesuvana, I hope you're doing well!
A screenshot would definitely be most helpful.
You should be able to click the camera-like icon and attach it here. However, in some cases you might need to use a desktop to do that, or at least the desktop version on your browser while using your mobile.
Also, when did this start happening?
Keep me posted!

Hi Megan
Thanks for responding. I believe the error message problem was resolved after upgrading Dropbox per Sam DBX's directions on Feb 7. I did not have an Option to Save as Reader PDF with that upgrade. There must have been a dot upgrade afterwards that added that feature. This problem started with that upgrade. Or there is also a possibility is related to the iOS upgrade from 17.3 to 17.3.1, which I did a few days ago.
Below is a photo of the new problem of sidebar and text overlapping. You were right- I had to use the web interface to upload it. This display problem happens when trying to save on iOS 17.3.1 to Dbx 362.7.4. It happens when trying to save a webpage from Safari, a Reader view webpage from Safari or a webpage saved via Pocket. Any thoughts would be great. thanks!

Hey vesuvana, thanks for the screenshots!
You mentioned that this happens when you try to save content from Safari.
Just as a test, and to exclude this being a browser-specific issue, would you mind trying a different browser too, to see if you'll get the same response?
- vesuvana11 months agoHelpful | Level 5When I open a webpage in Firefox on my iPhone it won't let me save to Dbx as a PDF. It only uploads a tiny .txt file and a link file without preview. I tried with multiple websites and couldn't find one that was seen as a PDF or gave me an option to Save as PDF when I chose Share/Save to Dropbox.
I always use Safari because Firefox is always problematic. Is there a different specific browser you'd like me to try? I'll install it to try. - Megan11 months agoDropbox Staff
No worries at all, vesuvana. No need to download a different browser.
Just to identify if this is something caused by Dropbox, the new OS or Safari, would you be able to access your Dropbox app, visit the settings of your account, and clear your cache?
Let's see if that makes a difference.
- vesuvana11 months agoHelpful | Level 5No difference after clearing cache. I tried several different webpages in Safari. Ones with sidebars continue to have those elements (graphics and text) obscuring the main column of text. But even text only pages are saving with different margins than the webpage has, resulting in words cutting off on each line or wrapping the final letter of a word onto a new line.
I don't know if this is new, but I tried saving articles from several newspaper apps (Denver Post, Reuters, AP News, Anchorage Daily) and also a simple post from a Mastodon social media app. They all have no option for save as PDF, just the pair of unusable files. This is not usually a problem so long as I can open an article in Safari and save it to a legible PDF from that. But thought you might want to know.
thanks in advance - Lisa - vesuvana11 months agoHelpful | Level 5Yes text within the main column overlaps and sidebar elements obscure the main column of text. I can upload other screengrabs that highlight one or the other, if you like.

Yes, screenshots showing the PDF as it appears on a desktop machine would be great.

I tried to test various websites and articles to see which fail to render correctly. Please bear with me.
1. I have noticed the new 2-line header at the top of every saved file on Dbx that gives the article title with Saved to Dropbox and the date and timestamp is pushing the linebreaks of the whole article to be incorrect. See attached screenshot Dbx header changes line breaks.jpg
2. I think the Dbx header is also involved in articles where elements cover the text by being pushed down. See Cnet article covered.jpg
3. Some sites really break with Dbx now. See Sidebar and header obscure on Epicurious.jpg This happens with every recipe saved from that site. Interestingly, it happens even if I Request Desktop Site or choose to display in Reader view. It will appear white text on black with images stripped on my phone but still save exactly as this file appears. See linzer tart dbx error and ribeye recipe dbx error
4. Non-recipes also have sidebar elements obscuring text as well as the line break problem. See pocket articles obscure and line break.jpg
- vesuvana11 months agoHelpful | Level 5Updated to 364.2.4 yesterday. So far the floating side bar elements seems fixed. But the file I saved to Dbx today is missing all the images. Also is there a way to turn off the automatically added Dbx header? It ruins line breaks. So I guess I do need a ticket opened. Thanks!

Hey Jadsr, let's jump right into this!
Would you mind sharing some additional info with me?
When did this start happening? Also, feel free to let me know the OS you're currently using along with the Dropbox version you're using on your iPhone.
Keep me posted, and we'll take it from there!
