Thumbnails not showing for online-only

As a new user to Dropbox, I've uploaded all photos from my Mac (Sonoma 14.4) using Dropbox 194.4.6267 and set the files to online-only.  None of the thumbnails show on my Mac and this is a non-starter for me in using Dropbox.  I've reindexed via Spotlight all of my files on my mac, and I've toggled online and offline only settings and still no thumbnails are showing.  Any suggestions or advice would be much appreciated before moving to Google One.

  • I have found the solution for my team.

I had to upgrade my dropbox to use to file provider api.

To do this however you cannot be syncing more than 30000 files in your dropbox.

So to upgrade you first need to unsync all folders that you have synced on your dropbox desktop app (online-only or offline both) and if they have all unsynced you can update dropbox from your preferences by clicking on your initials in the app and choose preferences - syncing and there should be an option to update dropbox to using file provider. If it still doesn't show the update option after all your files have unsynced, try closing everything dropbox related from the activity monitor or reboot your PC.

Do mind you need to opt in for the early release versions in your settings - general of your web based dropbox.

After the update and the resync the previews for my team started working.

Hi there mmccullo777 - thanks for bringing this to our attention.

Could you try updating to the latest version of the app from this page and let me know if this persists after ensuring that the app is 'up to date' and not still syncing in your menu bar?

    Thanks!

I have this issue as well. I used to be able to see thumbnails of online only photos in my finder, and I thought PDFs. Now if I have an online only file, there is no thumbnail which makes it very hard to decide what to sync locally. I have an Apple M3 Pro chip, running Sonoma 14.4.1, and dropbox version 204.4.5420. It appears that some folks online have fixed it quitting and restarting dropbox, or downloading the latest version, but that hasn't worked for me. Thanks for your help.

I have this issue as well with a team of designers and dropbox support was of no help....

Anybody found a solution to this?

    They are working on Macbooks.

I am testing on a macbook right now with version V209.3.3602 but nothing seems to fix this... Very frustrating

Same issue here, followed steps and updated like suggested in other part of this forums but no fix.

      Please provide a solution
