epub files supported but something went wrong

I keep getting the error message 'epub files are supported but something went wrong'. I've tried different browsers. I have received similar files ( previous versions of same file) from same source without issue. They say there is nothing wrong with their file, it opens on their end.

Hi HejKay, thanks for messaging today!

Are you trying to preview or download the epub file from the site?

Are you exporting it to a third party app instead?

This will help me to assist further!

downloading...I sent the link to a friend - same error, but another friend was able to download it directly ( when they tried to preview it it gave same error) to their phone.

      Thanks!

      K

What device and OS are you using on your mobile?

Are you downloading the file via a shared link, or directly from own Dropbox account?

I keep getting this error on nearly every single one of my epub files all of a sudden: “epub files supported but something went wrong”. I say sudden because these files worked perfectly fine up until a day ago.

I know it’s not the files themselves because:
1.) I’ve previewed them on Dropbox before.
2.) I tried downloading a few of the files to my computer from Dropbox & was able to view them in their designated reader app. So it’s definitely not that they are corrupt.

I’ve had corrupt epubs in my Dropbox before & they will not display the cover photo of the book as a thumbnail, which is the primary indicator of the file being corrupt. This is not the case for the files that no longer seem to be working but that I am able to download. Their thumbnail covers appear in my Dropbox. I just cannot preview the epub content.

I thought maybe Dropbox was down but that doesn’t seem to be the issue. I’ve also tried to open the epubs on Dropbox via iPhone app, iPad app, desktop & two different browsers. The problem persists.

To be clear, this is in regards to Dropbox’s epub preview/reader functionality. This feature is a staple in my daily use of Dropbox.

Also, I am a Dropbox Plus user.

      Hi moonlightbae, happy Friday!

Do you have installed an app on your iPhone that's able to preview these files?

Based on this Help Center article, it seems that .epub files aren't supported and shouldn't be previewed online.

Can you send me a screenshot of the error you got on your end?

      Keep me posted!

I’m not sure why epubs aren’t listed in the link you provided but epub previews are definitely a thing. I have been previewing them in my
Dropbox account ever since I noticed I could for about a year now. I am still able to preview some old ones I’ve viewed before. But any epubs I newly upload or epubs I uploaded and never clicked on result in the error message I mentioned.
