What the hell is going on here? I can't upload anything from this shared folder anywhere using your useless app. When I look at all my files locally, they say 0kb. It seems like the only way to upload files from Dropbox is to upload them to my computer first?? WHAT ON EARTH IS THE POINT THEN??? You are aware that there's no need to do this on Google Drive, right? I just synch the files and it downloads them as they are needed. Why should I have to have two completely unnecessary versions of a file in order to actually be able to work on it? That completely defeats the purpose of having cloud storage in the first place. I cannot believe this is how the system is supposed to work - what am I missing here?6Views0likes1CommentApp always updating thousands of files
Since a few weeks, my Dropbox app is always updating thousands of files, whenever my computer is started, taken out of sleep or hibernation. I think it started after I used Dropbox to briefly store a lot of small files on a secondary laptop. Searching on the internet, I have found more people with similar problems and I have tried some of the suggested solutions, but so far to no avail. This is on Windows 11, Dropbox plus subscription with selective sync enabled (my whole dropbox doesn't fit on the laptop). What I have done: remove and reinstall Dropbox; remove, delete dropbox cache folder, reboot laptop, reinstall Dropbox. At first the reinstall seemed to work but it didn't solve it permanently. Any other suggestions?Solved1.3KViews0likes11CommentsStable Build 194.4.6267

Hi everyone, I’m having trouble fully disassociating my personal Dropbox account (which I pay for and is under a different email and password) from a former Dropbox Business team account so I may link it to my new Dropbox Lumen account on my PCs. Although I’ve unlinked the account from my PC and am no longer part of the team, Dropbox still identifies my personal account as associated with the former firm team, which is preventing me from linking it to my new Lumen business Dropbox account. I need guidance on how to: Fully remove my personal account from the Flatiron team without affecting my personal files (these were never part of the team). Ensure my personal Dropbox account operates as a standalone account. Any advice or steps to resolve this would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance, Mark18Views0likes2CommentsThere's a .canary file causing syncing issues on my Dropbox app.
Hey all! My local backup software failed out yesterday - it reported that there was a file in use in Dropbox. I poked around and found that ".canary" in my Dropbox cache was marked with the syncing icon (round blue arrows). There was also a file "canary.enabled", but that one seemed to be static. When I delete the ".canary" file, it simply reappears. This file doesn't show up on my online account (natch). I can see it on my two linked computers, my desktop (Win 11) and laptop (Win 10). Both are running app version 214.3.5104. I have a basic (free) account. Anyone know what's going on with this canary file? Why can't I delete it? Where did it come from? I'd like to clear it so my local backup will run, but I'm also concerned that this might indicate a security issue, as I have no idea where this file came from. Thanks for anything you can offer!374Views0likes20CommentsWhy does Dropbox for MacBook keep 'removing' itself?
Hi, Myself and multiple users in my organisation have an issue where the Dropbox installed App on our MacBooks 'removes itself. By this, I mean, Dropbox will still be installed, we can navigate VIA finder, however we are suddenly unable to open the files. When we navigate to Dropbox on the menubar, the icon has been removed, but the space for it is still there, when clicking it, it pulls up the Dropbox pop up as normal. When we go to share files we are presented with the options that can be seen below. What we have to do is redownload the Dropbox installer and reinstall Dropbox. When the install is done, we dont need to do anything else, no resyncing files etc. It picks up where it left off.. Really weird. This is happening for people on different versions of MacBooks, different versions of Dropbox etc. Any advise?37Views0likes5CommentsSuspicious "DropboxUpdater" file appears to be passing itself as legitimate Dropbox file
Hi, I'm informing you about this both to let you know that Dropbox may be being used as a means to get through firewalls, and to get this on the record for other people having the same issue. I will also be informing BitDefender. I have Dropbox installed at "C:\Program Files (x86)\Dropbox" and within the "C:\Program Files (x86)\Dropbox\Update" folder, the executable is named "DropboxUpdate.exe" Above details the legitimate Dropbox install. However, there has recently been a second Dropbox presence on my PC, presumably using Dropbox credentials to walk through my firewall. I use BitDefender. The second presence is located at "C:\Program Files\Dropbox\DropboxUpdater\123.0.6299.61" and is named "updater.exe" I initially didn't see it as suspicious due to the "Dropbox"-named folder in it's path. However, whenever it connected to the internet, it downloaded a file, then created a folder named "C:\Program Files\chrome_unpacker_beginunzipping33496_1121615137\" The number string was different for each file, but followed the same pattern of 5 and 10 numbers. This folder contained a filed named "dropboxclientinstaller.exe" which would then connect to the internet, however, it didn't show up in the "Application Access" tab of the Bitdefender Firewall, but did create a new "Rule" in that tab, with access allowed. It then downloaded a separate .RAR file to the following folder and deleted itself, leaving the "chrome_unpacker*" folder in place. "C:\Program Files\Dropbox\DropboxUpdater\123.0.6299.61" Here, I don't know what the files were called, but there were a lot of them there. As soon as I found them, I deleted the lot, as well as all other related folders and files. I required Admin access to do so, and only after I had deleted everything else could I deleted the "updater.exe" file.11Views0likes1CommentFeature Request: ExFAT Compatibility when using external drives
I (as well as many others I'm sure) use Dropbox to sync with offsite professionals while needing to use multiple workstations. Rather than keeping local copies on each of these computers (as they aren't private workstations and often are cleared), I keep my Dropbox on an External drive. I've now been presented with a need to utilize this system over multiple OS, and have just found out that Dropbox cannot be linked to an ExFAT external drive. The 4GB file limit has been removed with FAT32, and many professionals have to utilize multiple OS environments to do their job. This is a problem with a solution that's far overdue. Please let me continue to use Dropbox to connect with other professionals regardless of the OS I am working on in that moment.103Views0likes6CommentsCannot upgrade Windows devices to 217.3.4297.
I'm running DropBox Business Advanced with 4 Licenses for 4 Win11 PC's. The forst 2 went perfect, but I cannot get the other 2 of them to update from version 216.4.4420 to 217.3.4297. I have tried everything! These 2 do not have the 'update' feature under preferences I've downloaded the DropboxInstaller.exe and it runs and appears to finish but does not upgrade the version, even after a PC reboot. Anyone have a suggestion, please help if you can. thx!20Views0likes3Comments
