Dropbox Client for Linux on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS- icon not clickable.
Guys, I've noticed a bug on Dropbox Client on Ubuntu 23.10 and the same occurs on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS after a installed it from scratch on my machine. It's really a bug on the app on desktop.
The problem is: the app on system tray doesnt open or show anything until the system is blocked to block screen and returns putting password. After that it works normally as it should. I recorded a short video showing the problem with you:

Thanks for reporting this. I've checked with our engineering team, who is currently looking into why the desktop tray icon in Linux is unresponsive. I'll let you know when I have an update!
I've installed Ubuntu LTS 24.04. and was frustrated to see, that Dropbox is not reacting. Although I was connected with my login. No Window to open at all.
But now - after connecting here with my account - I can open the window and select, which folders I want to sync, where dropbox should sync to and so on.
May I ask you to check, if someone else observe something similar?
Megan: As I wrote - maybe an indicator to a final solution, if you share this with your developers?

Update: I've just tried it on another compter - also Ubuntu 24.04 installed. There I do not have access to the client, even if I am logged in the community. So questionsmarks again on my side.
Both machines uses Browsers, based on the Chrome-Engine and both have the latest patch-level...
I don't use your desktop setup raulgrangeiro and don't have the same issue, but in general Dropbox application (rather the daemon - the actual executable) doesn't work stable. This is not something new and often different people report different strange things appearing (sometime things disappearing). I have also issue with my Dropbox menu (no any submenu appears) and reported it multiple times - no any reaction 🤦 - Dropbox Linux application is not "first class citizen" here 🤷, unfortunately. Better don't rely that something will be changed. In your case the menu comes back at least after your trick. 😉

This has been a bug since the dawn of time and has been reported many times without a fix being issued. Locking the screen always makes the icon work again. Before that, it does not.

But separately to that, I'd personally love to learn more about how you use Dropbox overall, if you are open to sharing 🤗? I'm really interested in people's workflows and would love to share tips with you or gather feedback to pass along to our team.
I've tried suspending and reopening, but the Dropbox icon does nothing. I'm not even sure if it's installed, though the icon is on my app tray. Trying to install though the App Center shows "unmet dependency". I've tried repeatedly to manually install. I have Ubuntu 24.04. How do I check installation or uninstall on terminal? (I generally only use terminal when I copy and paste instructions.) How necessary is the app? Can I not just copy folders to the Dropbox folder?
When I go to the App Center, it doesn't show Dropbox as an installed app, so I can't uninstall there. But when I try to install Dropbox, it says "looks like it's already installed". When I go to the "Show Apps", it shows the Dropbox icon, which won't open. If it doesn't show in the App Center, how else can I uninstall it? (This may be more of an Ubuntu question.)
When I go to Files, Dropbox and all the folders within it show green checks, as though they are syncing. Maybe that's not what the green checks mean? At one point I asked how to sync folders and was told that everything within the Dropbox folder automatically syncs. Is that not so?
I had Dropbox years ago (when I used Windows) and I don't think there was an app. However, all I did was move or import files to the Dropbox folder for them to be saved - but maybe they weren't synced.
More basically, I'm wondering how necessary the app is. Hannah, on Dropbox staff, says it is the only way to sync. I have the Dropbox folder on my home folder and if I move a file or folder I want to backup into that folder, it appears on the Dropbox website, so I assume it is backed up. But is it being synced? If not, how do I accomplish that? Do I need the app? She or someone said that the app creates that Dropbox folder.. Mybe so, but it's been there for a long time. That is the way I backed up things to Dropbox ten years or so ago, on a Windows system. I feel like I'm missing something in my understanding. Incidentally, using the "Files" file manager, all the files and folders I added to the Dropbox folder, including one I just created called "Test" show green check marks, which I had thought meant they are backed up. Are they syncing?

Essentially when you install our desktop app, a Dropbox folder is created locally on the device, which mirrors your files online and vice versa.
When you add content inside the Dropbox folder you should be able to see them when visiting your account online. If they do, that means the app is syncing.

I proabably have an indicator to a solution.
I've installed Ubuntu LTS 24.04. and was frustrated to see, that Dropbox is not reacting. Although I was connected with my login. No Window to open at all.
But now - after connecting here with my account - I can open the window and select, which folders I want to sync, where dropbox should sync to and so on.
May I ask you to check, if someone else observe something similar?
Megan: As I wrote - maybe an indicator to a final solution, if you share this with your developers?

I don't use your desktop setup raulgrangeiro and don't have the same issue, but in general Dropbox application (rather the daemon - the actual executable) doesn't work stable. This is not something new and often different people report different strange things appearing (sometime things disappearing). I have also issue with my Dropbox menu (no any submenu appears) and reported it multiple times - no any reaction 🤦 - Dropbox Linux application is not \"first class citizen\" here 🤷, unfortunately. Better don't rely that something will be changed. In your case the menu comes back at least after your trick. 😉

Without the Dropbox application, any files you add to the Dropbox folder won't sync to your account.

If the Dropbox icon isn't responding, can you please uninstall the Dropbox app, reboot your computer and then reinstall it, to see if it helps?
