What does extended version history mean?

I'm very confused about the subscription for Extended Version History. I have a plus plan does it mean after a year photos or files I loaded automatically delete? I don't understand this Version History part. I read as much as I could to understand but don't get it. Am I going to lose my photos and files without knowing it?

  • Hi Shunket05, thanks for messaging the Community!

Extended version history is used when you need to recover older files that were edited or deleted.

It doesn't mean that any files on your account would be automatically deleted after a year.

    Hope this helps!

      Hi Jay,
Thank you so much for explaining that to me. I should say I suffer from a brain injury and the wording in the FAQ was too complicated to understand. Probably normal wording to understand for an uninjured brain just not mine. Just a thought maybe have this statement there too. I only say that because it says Dropbox staff.
Thank you again for making it easier for me to understand. It took away a lot of anxiety.

No worries, I'm glad to have helped out.

Just to let you know, the only instance in which files are deleted from your account by Dropbox is if an account has been left inactive for 12 months in a row (as in, a person doesn't login or sync files to the account), then the entire account is deactivated.

Hi Jay, what do you mean by edited?  I usually edit photos on my phone in apple photos before saving onto dropbox. I'm just tossing up whether to keep this option or get rid of DB all together and go with the paid extra storage on my icloud account. Any info would be great.  Thanks.

Hi @Tizzy, this is referring to editing files that are already on your Dropbox account.

If you edit files before uploading them to Dropbox, then there would be no record of that edit on Dropbox, since you uploaded the edited version.
