Multiple charges and credits for the same amount from Dropbox

I just received an email from Dropbox today saying thanks for upgrading to Dropbox Plus and there is a $119.88 charge associated with it.

I never authorized any upgrade like this.

When I go look at my credit card there are 4 pairs of charge/credit for that amount.  Why is that happening?

And why would this charge for Dropbox Plus appear without my authorization?

For what it is worth, I would NEVER EVER sign up for a service like Dropbox if I had known the support options are ALL self-service - no ability to speak to a human.  Pure garbage.

Sorry to hear that you're having this experience, CombatYoga.

I'd firstly suggest looking up the transactions through our payment lookup tool; is it bringing up an account you're familiar with?

Let me know what you find.

I can see the pending charges on my credit card from Dropbox, but that tool is asking for a 12-digit transaction ID - perhaps that will show up when the charge posts.

Let's play this out though - what information am I going to see in the lookup tool when i enter the transaction ID?  It feels like busy work to be honest.

I am not comfortable with all of the charge/credit pairs, even if they are only pending.  Can you explain why that is happening?

We can't say for sure, CombatYoga, because we don't have access to that kind of info here on the Community.

The lookup tool should show you the email address associated with the account that got upgraded (if it does).

If you're not the one upgrading your account, is it possible that someone else has access to your payment method?
