Changing or transferring ownership of a Family plan

We have a family plan. The family manager is no longer continuing in that role, so what we need to do is transfer ownership to allow one of the other members within the family plan to take on the role of manager and become responsible for future payments when they are due.  We have been told that if we want to change the person who is the manager for our Family, we will need to cancel the plan, then have the person who will be the new Family manager purchase a new Family plan and re-invite ALL the family members.

1) What happens when the current plan is cancelled? Will everyone lose their files? Will the shared family folder also disappear with all the important files in it?

2) What happens to those who are not part of the family, but who have been given access to certain folders for viewing?  Will we have to re-invite ALL those people too or is their access retained?

    Welcome to our Community, @JOn_PEO!

What you mention is correct indeed; to change the manager of a Family plan, the subscription will need to be cancelled first, in order to re-upgrade under another manager later on. However, keep in mind that only the manager of the Family plan can cancel it.

When this happens, all plan members will retain access to all of their files and folders, as well as any content that was shared with them.

When saying though that the current manager is no longer continuing in that role, do you mean that they're no longer available to cancel the subscription? I'm asking so that I can provide more guidance regarding your first question about the Family Room folder and how to proceed.

As for your second question, folders that have been shared with external users should remain as they are and you shouldn't have to re-share them.

Let me know when you have more details.
