Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime library error on dropboxupdate.exe, R6030 CRT not initialized

Hi,

I got this error message today, after login into my computer. How can I solve it?

I use Windows 10 LTSC.

Thanks,

Feriman

    Hi!

Same problem here on Windows 10.

Is there any solution? Of course it is not a blocking problem but it happens very often in my case.

I've been getting this error off and on, for several months now.  It always happens after I wake the computer up for the first time, after being away for a significant time (i.e. overnight) I've checked ALL of my Windows 11 Application & Service logs, along with the standard event logs and can't see anything in particular around the same time that the system is woken up.

I tend to leave my system up for long periods of time. My laptop had been up and running for 22 days, 12 hours, and 59 minutes at the time I woke the system up. I'm sure this same error has occurred within the past 22 days.

Is there a possibility that you could add an Application Event Log for DropBox and give users the ability to enable a "debug" option in the application, that would log some information about what was happening before, and at the time the error occurred? Event Logs can be configured as rolling logs with a maximum size, so your app could log plenty of debug information.

At least then, you could determine what segment of code is causing the error and, if nothing else, catch the error and handle it, instead of letting it raise up to the user...

This is happening on 2 computers after a wakeup. So far just the message, everything seems to work ok.

Hey Feriman, thanks for bringing this to our attention.

What happens when you click OK on the error message?

Do you have any security software, like an antivirus, VPN, firewall etc. that could be affecting Dropbox?

Can you temporarily disable them, to see if the issue persists?

Let me know what you find!

Interestingly, I am getting exactly the same error message on Windows 10 today, and a Google search on runtime error "crt not initialized" "dropboxupdate.exe" brought me to this page. Never encountered this error before.

I just exited Dropbox and restarted it, and the error did not occur again.

I have Windows's built-in Virus & thread protection running, as I always do, so it is unlikely that Virus & thread protection would suddenly cause such runtime errors.

Hey JimX, thanks for letting us know about this.

I'm glad to hear it was resolved by quitting and relaunching the app for you.

It seems this was just a hiccup, but let's see if Feriman still has issues with this.

Let us know if you have anything else to add or ask.

Same error happened to me this morning when my machine awoke out of sleep.

Clicking ok worked but this is 2nd time in a month this same error has come up (though 20 successful awaiting from sleeps in between).

Hi vbtueli, thanks for posting here!

Can you also clarify your desktop app version? Also, does the error remain once you restart your device?

Do you use any VPN on your end?

      Keep me posted!

I received the CRT message today, Oct 27, 2023. It appeared when I unlocked my screen (system had been up and running for several hours).

Tray icon functions normally. Sync is current. I have not restarted Dropbox.
