I am using dropbox desktop app for many years without encountering any problems. Today, i tried to open the dropbox folder on my pc with windows explorer and it froze for about a minute before opening, same goes for every sub folder, i tried to reinstall the application, cleaning cache and temp files, nothing worked. I also noticed when i uninstall the application and try to browse the remaining dropbox folder, it works like a charm without any problem, but when i install dropbox, it starts freezing again. Any ideas?
My operastion system is windows 10 64bit.

Maybe you have to defragment your hard disk! I have the same problem before and i solve it by defragment and do a check on the hard disk.

I'm sorry to hear about this agomulka. Let's have a look into this now!
Can you first send me a screenshot of the desktop app's exact status as shown within your computer's system tray to get a better idea of what could be causing this?
Thanks!

Same issue here and also a paid account. Ever since the new version with the SmartSync came out I have had issues with DropBox. I even tried reinstalling with a fresh download from the site. Not antivirus related - tried that as well. Installed with admin. Watched it start the sync process when installed.
It acts like even with files set to Local it is still downloading the files/folders from the cloud when trying to access them - I repeat my files are local AND synced. I have watched my explorer bar "load" after clicking a folder or file for access within Explorer. This is not limited to a specific file type either. All files types (word, excel, photshop, power point, pdf, etc.) act like they are pulling from the cloud to be opened instead of using the local copies.
OS: Windows 10 64bit
DropBox: v86.4.146
- Save hard drive space automatically = off
- Selective sync = All folders selected
- DropBox is installed and syncing to an external drive (as it always has been and has never had an issue until this version)At this point, if this is not resolved soon I want to revert back to a previous version as these issues are a serious time loss in my day since I live and work out of my DropBox account.
Thank you!
Lori
- Jane6 years agoDropbox StaffHey iHate2, sorry to hear that you're facing this issue, let me follow-up a bit more closely towards resolution! For starters, kindly note that I’ve moved your post under this discussion, just so as to ping you to Walter’s reply to the OP. Have you by any chance tried whether an Advanced re-installation helps amend this discrepancy by any chance? If you’ve already done so, please do let me know of the results in your next message, just in order to take it from where you’ve left off on your end. I look forward to hearing back back from you!

I have already tried Advanced re-installation following the steps of that page and it didn't fix the issue.

Hello ? It's been 2 days without a reply from you. The problems still exists.

It's probably an issue with Windows and not Dropbox. Perhaps try using Dropbox on another computer and see if it works for you. I've been having no issues at all and have been using Dropbox on a daily basis.

Hey Pick_up_the_box, I’m afraid that I don’t have an update on my end, as the last ticket was closed in our system due to inactivity, however I’ll do my best to follow-up with you from where you've left off. I’m wondering if you’ve already tried any of the troubleshooting steps posted here previously, please let me know in your next message if possible & we’ll take it from there!

Hi,
I have the same issue on 2 of my 3 PCs. I am using Windows 10 pro, 64 bit (version 1903). When I try to open some folders, file explorer just crashes. I tried reinstall, and advanced re-installation.
Thank you in advance for your help!

About a month ago the same problem started on my notebook.
When I try to open any Dropbox folder using Windows 10 File Explorer, Windows File explorer freezes.
I can however open Excel and Word files stored in Dropbox from within Word and Excel (File>Open) without a problem.
Did an advance reinstall of Dropbox and re-sync of all files but the problem remains unsolved. Windows File Explorer still freezes when I try to open any Dropbox stored files.
I can open files in the Dropbox (Old) directory without File Explorer freezing.
Any suggestions appreciated...

Sorry to hear you're having this issue too Timo4.
When was the last attempt to re-install our software on the affected computer?
If it's not too much to ask, could you try once more using the offline installer of our latest, stable version of the desktop app and let me know if you're stll seeing this?
Thanks!
