Incorrect dropbox space usage on windows
Hi Guys,
My local Windows Dropbox is fully synced with my online Dropbox. Windows Explorer file/properties shows my Dropbox folder is 576 MB but to my surprise, dropbox.com and dropbox app bot...

We can confirm that the most recent releases of Dropbox should have resolved this issue. Users affected by this issue were unable to see all of the backups on their account. This meant that when they believe they deleted some or all of their files, there could still be backups taking up space on their account. This should no longer be affecting users who should be able to see all of their backups.
You can find out deleted information on disabling and deleting backups below:
If you disable the backup and choose to "Leave content in Dropbox", your backup content would still be there until it was permanently deleted.
When you go to the Backups page and see no content, be sure to check the deleted section, too.
You can download the files from this location if you need to store them locally on your device.
To clear out the data from the deleted backup, follow these steps:- Navigate to
dropbox.com/backup/all
- Click on
Show deleted backups
- Select their backup and click on
permanently delete
Some users did not have backups, but they were members of shared folders which were taking up space on their accounts. You can remove shared folders using these instructions.
If you are still experiencing quota issues after following these steps, then confirm that we can reach out to you via email and our support agents will look into this with you. - Navigate to

I have the 2GB plan. Yesterday I was told I was almost out of space, so I removed (and deleted) almost a GB worth of files. It then showed me I now had only 1.2 something GB.
Today, I got the same message that I’m almost out of space, that I’ve used 1.8 GB!
When I view my folders in a list on the Finder, and manually add them up on a calculator, they add up to only 1.2 something GB.
When I log in to Dropbox and go to my account, it also shows me that I have used only 1.02 GB!
How do I tell the Dropbox on my iMac and MacBook Air (both from 2017) that it does not have 1.8 GB worth of stuff on it!
I’m running Mac OS 12.3.1

Is Dropbox on the other devices running and have you given it time for them to update and sync the changes to the directories?

Dropbox says I'm out of space, so I deleted almost everything, it still says I'm out of space. Who has time for this?

If Dropbox is saying you're out of space, you're out of space. Remember to check any shared folders you're a member of because these take up space in your account as well. You can see your actual usage on your Plan page, where it will show you the space used by your regular files and your shared files.

busy people don't have time to navigate over complicated systems, I've deleted almost everything, still says dropbox is full, dropbox is for nerds with too much time to faff about

Yes, Dropbox is running on the other devices (the 3rd device being my iPhone).
How long should an update and sync take? I'm used to pretty fast turnaround from Dropbox. On my laptop, that I'm currently writing on, it says "your files are up to date".

Hi pdx_user, thanks for posting here!
When do you receive the message in regards to your quota? Is it via an email or maybe notification? Just checking to make sure you don't have two Dropbox accounts.
Let me know and we'll take it from there.

I don’t think I received an email as I don’t see one in my email box (in trash or inbox).
There are two places where I see the problem.
1) When I “get info” on the Dropbox folder, it tells me I’m suing 1.88 GB on disk.
2) When I click on the dropbox icon in the menu bar at the top, I see I have a notification. When I click on notifications, it says, “Your Dropbox is almost out of space. Get up to 3000 GB when you upgrade”

I'm getting these emails from Dropbox saying I'm almost out of space and my files could stop syncing if I sync even 1 more file. They're telling me to upgrade to a higher package even though I have 600GB of space left.
I have 600GB of free space left. (3.41TB used of 4TB).
Does anyone know why they're sending these silly emails?
