Uploading direct to Dropbox server via FTP
Is it possible to attain a server address in order to make a very large upload via FTP (40gb+)?
Thanks,
No, I'm afraid Dropbox does not support FTP or any method of uploading data other than via the clients, the website or the API (over HTTP/HTTPS).

I think the issue is more of access to the correct protocols. For example, I have a Foscam camera which can do uploads of snapshots but it only supports FTP. It would be great to be able to point it at my DropBox account, but clearly that's not possible at this point.

Regarding the FOSCAM camera, I also have these. I am using a program called ContaCam to locally monitor several FOSCAM cameras and perform the motion detection. The files are saved locally on the computer. You can set up the local folder to be your Dropbox location. ContaCam does not require a lot of resources, so if you have an old computer or laptop it will work well. I like the motion detection control options on ContaCam a lot better than FOSCAM's default software.

I am also looking for a way to ftp to my dropbox. In my case i need to ftp my backup file directly from the hosting company. The hosting company provides an ftp setup but not a dropbox client interface. Is there any option in the future to provide ftp access? Otherwise i am faced with ftp do my local pc then dropbox client to upload to dropbox...not a very good option.

You could set up a spare pc as a ftp server, you can do it with Filezylla. Then all you have to do is install the dropbox software and point both dropbox and Filezylla to the same folder

Dropbox will not work that way. The only way for a camera to support Dropbox directly is if the creator of the camera also developed their software to connect to Dropbox using the Dropbox API. There is no way to upload files to Dropbox simply by a link with username and password.
(And before someone mentions it, File Requests do not work that way either.)

Microsoft Flow can connect FTP -> Google Drive and then you can use IFTTT for example to run Drive -> Dropbox :)

Thanks Richard, can you suggest another service that does?

John, Dropbox upload is more reliable and often faster than FTP because DB uploads in 5MB chunks and if an upload is interupted only the last chunk is repeated whereas with FTP it usually has to start over.

Could you use File Request ???
