Scan Document feature freezes on "Waiting to Upload"

Howdy all,

I keep getting a glitch when attempting to create a document through the Dropbox "Scan Document" feature. I can scan the document, make adjustments, etc, but once I hit "Save" it gets stuck with the message 'Waiting to Upload".

I've been working on this for about an hour, attempted about a dozen scans. Sometimes the blue progress bar appears, moves to the right, then goes back to the message "Wating to Upload". Sometimes it will cycle through this a few times, sometimes it just stays on the "Waiting to Upload" mesage.

It also gets stuck if I hit the "Save as Scan" button on a photo from the Camera Uploads folder.

I'm only using 12.9% of a 2 TB account, and Dropbox is updated to the newest version. I'm using an iPhone 8 Plus with iOS 11.2.5. I have about 180GB avialble space on my iPhone. I can upload documents to Dropbox from other apps on my iPhone, they sync just fine. Camera Uploads is turned On, and syncing photos and videos just fine.

I've tried the following:

  • tried to save one page scans, 5 page scans, custom names, default name, small and large file size settings
  • waited for 20+minutes on upload
  • tried to save to different folders
  • turned wi-fi off and on again on phone
  • restarted Dropbox, restarted the phone

Any solutions out there?

  • Hi all,

We have pushed a server-side fix. You should see that the Doc Scanner now functions as expected.

There's no need to update to a new build, as the fix exists on our server.

    Many thanks for your patience!

Doc Scanner in the Dropbox iOS App is still not back to its old self. Uploading of scanned documents is very slow; before it took a couple of seconds, now about 3-4 minutes per document (on any type of network: Wifi, 4G). Text recognition (OCR) is also not working anymore. Normally documents scanned to PDF appear in my Dropbox folder with text recognized. Since a couple of days this doesn't work anymore.

When is full recovery of the Doc Scanner and OCR capability expected?

      Ross,
I am having the same issue.  Is the solution still a server issue?  I have tried chatting with the help center.  That was no help at all.  So here I am.
I have done all of the items listed in the OP as those were the solutions according to DB those did not help at all.
I do not have a work around for this issue and need a solution as soon as possible.
Thank you so much for your time!

The issue is playing up again -- Doc Scanner in the Dropbox iOS App does not work as usual: uploading of scanned documents is very slow; before it took a couple of seconds, now about 3-4 minutes per document (on any type of network: Wifi, 4G). Text recognition (OCR) is _not_ working anymore. Normally documents scanned to PDF appear in my Dropbox folder with text recognized. Since a couple of days this doesn't work anymore.

Sorry to hear that gershonj  - could you please clear the mobile app's cache and check for pending updates on your mobile device's OS? I'd suggest that you also took a look at your app store to see if there's an update for our app in this case.

        Spoiler

        On iOS:
To clear your cache, please follow the steps listed below:
        - Navigate to the “Personal” tab
        - Tap the gear icon in the upper-left corner of the screen
        - Select “Clear Cache”

Please note: If you do not see the gear icon on this main page, first click on the icon on the bottom right of the app that says “Account”, “Personal” or your Dropbox Business name. You should see the gear icon on this account page.

        On Android:
        - Tap the menu icon in the upper-left corner of the screen
        - Select "Settings"
        - Select “Clear Cache”

Once this is done then please ensure you log out of the Dropbox application, then restart your device and log back in again.

Let me know of any updates!

Thanks all for reporting this problem. We detected it ourselves and have been working on it in the background, but I wanted to update here too.

I can’t say exactly how long this will take to resolve, however, we believe we are making good progress and I hope to update here soon that we have a fix ready for this.

Unfortuantly there's presently no work-arounds, but we hope to have the Doc Scanner up and running again shortly.

Many thanks for your patience and understanding.

Hi there, if you keep iCloud backup on, and have its "Optimize iPhone Storage" setting enabled, this will save your full-resolution files in iCloud and store "optimized" versions on your phone.

Since the full-resolution images are stored in iCloud, the camera uploads feature needs to connect to the iCloud servers to upload each full-resolution image to Dropbox. This can be a slow process that depends on the strength of the connection to the iCloud servers.

Could you confirm if the optimize setting is enabled on your iCloud settings?

        Hi Jay

Turns out my iCloud Storage is not on for photos. Does it need to be on?

I’ve been unable to upload scans for the last 2 days - stuck in “Waiting to Upload”
I’ve worked around this by using Adobe Scan, then saving to Dropbox
I’ve uninstalled and reinstalling the app and verified I’m logged into both my personal and business accounts
      Please advise

Hey there birdenvy - sorry to hear that!

Could you please let me know if you're running our latest version of the mobile app (it's 114.2 for iOS devices)?

Could you please try to clear the cache on your app and then sign out and back into your Dropbox account?

Also, I see you mentioned an older version of the iOS on your mobile — would you mind updating your device’s OS and seeing if the issue persists?

Moreover, could you try clearing your caches too?  To clear your cache, please follow the steps listed below:
    - Navigate to the “Personal” tab
    - Tap the gear icon in the upper-left corner of the screen
    - Select “Clear Cache”.

Once this is done then please ensure you log out of the Dropbox application, then restart your device and log back in again.

I hope this helps and let me know how this goes. Thanks!

      Hi

I have same problem, and i am running 114.2.2 on IOS 12, i followed the steps, and that did not solve the problem.

Could this be related to IOS 12?

      BR

      Hi Walter,

Thanks for the quick reply. Yes I am using Dropbox version 114.2

I tried clearing the cache, logging out, restarting my phone, still didn't work.

I also tried deleting the app and reinstalling, still didn't work.

I then updated to the newest iOS 12, still no luck.

        Update:

I tried saving the scanned document as a PNG, and that uploaded!

Still doesn't solve my problem, as I need multipage PDF's.
