Is there a way to recover files from a link created by someone who has passed away?

I doubt very much that there is but, is there any way to access a Drop Box account of someone that has recently died without a password? 2 years ago, my sister-in-law took many photo's at my son's wedding and later shared them in a link to a Drop Box account. Unfortunately, no one could access the link and she didn't get around to fixing it before passing away. I still have the link. Or are they gone forever?

Hi there, MotherOfTheGroom, and sorry to hear about your loss.

You mentioned that you still have the shared link; what do you see, when you click on it?

I ask, because if the files are still in the account, you should still be able to access them from the link.

Regarding the account itself, do you perhaps have access to the email associated with the account?

Let me know and we'll go from there!

      Thank for your reply!

I have an email address that was used by my sister-in-law, but whether it was used to set up her account, I'm not sure.

I can't remember what the link looked like when it was first shared that no one was able to access at the time, but currently it says " That didn't work for some reason

If it's a fluke, it might work if you refresh the page. You can also ask us for help.  "

      Thx

Sorry to hear of your loss MotherOfTheGroom

How long ago did she pass? The reason I ask is that whole accounts are wiped after 12 months of inactivity meaning if nobody was logging on in that time the data would be wiped which is irreversible.

        Mark is right here, MotherOfTheGroom.

It might be possible that the account has been deleted, due to inactivity.

I would suggest opening a private browsing window and going to this page.

From there, you can create a ticket with our support team, who will be able to get to the bottom of this and will let you know if there's something that can be done.
