File access
523 TopicsSecure and hidden files
It would be a great idea to implement an extra layer of protection to be able to hide certain files or be able to lock them with a set password within the app since I experience multiple users on multiple machines of mine being able to access most of the files. Therefor I would really benefit from a folder I can lock with my personal password and therefor hide sensitive information or files that should not be accessed by other users but me. I would suggest calling it something like Vault or Hidden Files. This could also be done via integration through the apps, let people decide if they want to install the vault feature or not.34Views1like3CommentsEnable create and rename folders/files on MacOS Dropbox application for admin users
After a recent dropbox update, at the top level, admin users are unable to create and rename files on their desktop dropbox application for Mac users (OS version: Sequoia 15.3.2). This slight change has made it more of a hassle to use the desktop app, it makes it appear obsolete to be honest. My team needs a number of folders to created frequently as we get new cases quite frequently. After the new update, as the admin user, I have to navigate to my web browser in order to create a folder and then come back to my desktop app to add all the relevant documents into that folder. If I make a mistake in the name of the folder, I can't change the name of the folder I have to go back to web browser, find the folder and then change it from there. It is such that even as an admin user on my computer, when I go to unlock the folder at the top level to give me read and write access, it automatically switches back as it is something that has been enabled from the software and not the user end. I could see the justification for having this restriction for non-admin users but for admin users whose job description requires the creation and modification of top level files, it has added an additional step in work flow that is cumbersome. In the past, all these could be done directly from the desktop app. I would like to request that the feature be put back as it was. The new change is not user friendly at all.63Views2likes4CommentsAbility to delete files from the Signatures tab and see which team members can access them.
Dropbox signature feature - the long list of signed files on this page on dropbox.com is not transparent enough. There's no clear way to tell quickly and easily who has permission to view these files. This can be worrying for an Admin! Also, I can't delete / remove these files. When I click on the 3 dots I can only download and preview. Dropbox support confirmed the only way to delete the file is to open each one and delete from there. This is not practical with hundreds of documents being signed. We need to be able to clear / tidy this list easily - bulk delete would be awesome. Thank you.24Views0likes2CommentsQR codes needed for shared files
Hey there Sam, Any new word on this QR code discussion? I am needing to create physical notebooks for co-counsels and some exhibits are too big to print and put into a notebook/binder. QR codes seemed like the way to go. I know I can still do it using a different QR Generator, but it sure would be cool to do this directly with Dropbox. Is there some other tool I can use for this kind of situation that I don't know about yet? Thanks a million!78Views0likes5CommentsSearch and sort through images with facial recognition
I’m in my final year of high school and my cohort has started a Dropbox to compile everyone’s photos for the whole year. I think it would be really cool to be able to say find all the photos of me, or the photo of me and Person A. Similar of like how you can search by people on the Apple photos app. We have hundreds of photos and sorting through them is tedious. I think this could be a really cool idea.589Views10likes5CommentsI need to remove some members from my shared folders, but I don't seem to be the owner.
I have discontinued a business relationship with a few people and would now like to unshare some of my folders in Dropbox. However, I don't seem to be able to do that, and what's worse, one of the ex-associates seems to be the OWNER of a folder in my account! How do I fix this? I render videos out to Dropbox and then other people on my team use them. If I need to overwrite a file because of an error or something my teammate gets an alert on their Mac when trying to open that video file that says it is possible malware and has to manually go in and approve each file and tell the Mac to open the file anyway. Is there a setting this teammate has on their computer causing this to get it to ignore all files on Dropbox or something? It can end up being a lot of files sometimes that are overwritten and they have to go in on each one and manually override the warning. Hello. Since the big Dropbox update in February 2025 I have been experiencing issues. I mainly use Dropbox in Windows file explorer, not on the Dropbox App / Site. I have Dropbox for Windows on 3 separate devices: (2) Windows 11 Laptops, and (1) Windows 10 Desktop - and I have am having the same issue on all devices. The main issue is image previews in the "preview pane" of the Windows file explorer. Before the update, if I had an image saved locally / set to "available offline", a full preview of the image would show up in the preview pane, just as it would if I was in a local folder on my computer, like my "Pictures" folder, or whatever. Also, images that were only in the cloud / set to "online only" would display a small compressed preview in the preview pane, which is fine. Since the February update, when I am in my Dropbox folder with images that have been downloaded locally, it will either only generate a small compressed preview in the preview pane, or no preview at all, and it takes a very long time for the preview to show up. However, the "online only" images are still behaving the same, showing only a small compressed preview in the preview pane, however the preview shows up faster than it does for a locally saved file... So strange. I do a lot of image editing and graphic design, so not being able to quickly scroll through my image folders and look at the previews puts a massive kink in my workflow. It has been driving me insane. It's like the Dropbox Windows app is having difficulty discerning which files are downloaded locally or just in the cloud. For some reason it is treating the downloaded files like they are still in the cloud, or even worse for some reason as sometimes a preview won't even load, compressed or otherwise. The green checkmark is there on the file, but the previews are compressed or don't show up at all. And this it not an intermittent problem, it is constant and has not gotten better since the update in February. I have been resorting to moving the images into a local folder on whichever device I am currently using so that I am able to scroll through them efficiently, and then re-upload them to the Dropbox folder when I am done working, and then download them to a local folder again on my next device. It is very annoying to do every time. There has to be a better way. I also checked the functionality of my OneDrive and iCloud folders in Windows, and they all show previews in the preview pane just fine, just like my local Windows folders. It is solely a Dropbox issue. I tried searching Reddit and could find nothing, so I started my own post on there, and there are a handful of other people that have come forward with the same problem. Someone from Dropbox commented on my Reddit post and suggested that I post on here, so here I am. Any help out there?? Thank you.91Views1like6CommentsAccess to "overfilled" Dropbox
I have been using the free version of Dropbox and the automatic backups I had set overfilled it. Now I can't get into Dropbox to remove files or change what backups are made. If I click on Dropbox, it only shows a pdf file (not mine) and nothing else. In the bottom left corner of the screen is a message in pink showing that I have exceeded the storage limit. However, there is no option for actually accessing my files for deletion or changing anything in my account. A young man on Dropbox's help chat got me to a point where I could see the files, but I was unable to delete or download any of them. Very frustrating.28Views0likes1CommentAll image files have disappeared from my account
Hello, I had not logged into my Dropbox account in a while, but this morning I needed some images I had stored there so I logged in. While the folders I had images stored in are still there, all images in the entire account are gone. Files that were not images are still there. I've looked in the Events area and it does NOT show where any of them were deleted as far back as it goes. But every single one of them are gone. Nothing is in the deleted folder, either. I do not sync my online account with my devices, but only manually upload specific things. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions on what happened and how I might recover my photos?51Views0likes9Comments
