I can upload to shared folders in Dropbox.com but not desktop app

I have a folder that's shared with me by a client.  I'm able to upload files to it using Dropbox.com on the web, but I'm unable to add any files to it using the desktop app on Mac.  When I drag a file and hover over the folder or subfolders in Finder, I get the circle with a slash icon telling me I can't copy to it.

On Mac M1 laptop running Ventura 13.2

  • Since the Upload button had greyed out, I then asked the client to take a look at my permissions on their end.  They restored the permissions and now everything is working as expected- I'm able to copy files through Finder as well as over the web.  The lock icons on the folders all disappeared.  No one had gone and removed the permissions yesterday, so something was definitely wonky, which may have been repaired when I uninstalled and reinstalled the desktop app, and then asked the client to restore permissions.  Anyway, looks like we're good now.  Thank you for your time!

Hey daboxer, thanks for bringing this to our attention.

    It's quite strange, indeed.

If you copy the file and paste it into the folder, instead of dragging and dropping it, does it work?

What's the sync status and version of the Dropbox app?

You can hover over the Dropbox icon in your menu bar to see this info.

Let me know and we'll go from there.

I'm running Dropbox version 183.4.7058 and sync status is "up to date".

Copy/ Paste commands don't work either.  Also, many of the subfolders have a lock icon in Finder.  I can right click "Get Info", turn off "Locked" which removes the icon but it does not make a difference.  Under "Sharing & Permissions", it says I have Read & Write privilege as well.

        Thanks for the update here!

Is this the case only for this particular shared folder? Or other folders in your Dropbox as well?
