File sorting in iOS app. Why are folders first?

When I select "sort by name" in the app, the app sorts by name but separates the folders and other files. It puts all the folders first. Why is it doing this? There's an option to "sort by [file] type", so why is that option encroaching on the name sorting? Is there another setting I don't know about that is causing this behavior? It was not always like this and I could have quick reference PDFs at the top of the alphabetical list just by putting an underscore on the beginning of the file.

Hi anotherprofile, how are you today?

This is essentially expected behavior when you sort content by name that the folders come first. I'm afraid that there's not another setting that you can use, in order to avoid that.

Have you tried sorting content, using a different way?

I'll forward your feedback to the appropriate areas so we can continue to improve.

If you need anything else, let me know.

I just got a new iPhone and I’m blanking on how to integrate my folders within my files. As they’re all listed now, it starts with all the blue folders and then lists all the files after that. Can one of you help?

Do you mean so that they sort by name regardless of file type (e.g. file or folder?)

If so I'm afraid that isnt possible.

No, actually, it's the other way around.  They sort ALL the folders FIRST and then ALL the files.  Yet on my MacBook Pro and on my earlier iPhone, the folders and files were all alphabetized as a unit... that's still right on my MacBook Pro, but not on the new iPhone.  I remember there was an easy fix, but I just don't remember what it is...

Hey Broadwaymhl, thanks for your post!

I'm afraid that when sorting folders and files on the Dropbox mobile app, the folders will always come first and the files second.

There's no way to change this currently, but I'll pass your feedback along to our team.
