Hi all, happy Monday and thanks for flagging this with us.
I just wanted to let you know that I looked this up internally and I can see that this should be resolved now.
You should now be able to delete your Dropbox account normally.

Hi, I am actively trying to delete my Dropbox account. I am following all the steps required, but when I enter my password, fill out the form to delete it and click on the final button, I encounter an « Oops something went wrong (Error 500 » page and my account is not deleted.
I have tried many times on Desktop and mobile. I just don’t know what to do to delete my account anymore as it is clearly not working.
Can anyone help me to do so?

Hey Samanthaar, thanks for bringing this to our attention.
Have you perhaps tried using a different browser or a private browsing window, to see if that helps?
Let me know how it goes and we'll go from there.

Can you please try a private browsing window without any extensions or plugins running and let us know if you notice any difference?
If I were you, I'd also try clearing my browser's cache, then try again.

Why can't I delete my account?? I get charged monthly for this thing I don't use and I don't need the images on there. It's been bugging me for ages saying "has stopped syncing - no space" for ages. I've ignored it and finally come to delete it ... get myself to the delete my account bit, type in my password and I get "

Also totally lost, I get charged £9 a month but on my account looks like I haven't been charged since 2019? How do you talk to someone at Dropbox? I'm a severely disgruntled customer at this point - it shouldn't be this confusing/hard to delete my account.

Hi jb210, thanks for messaging the Community.
I understand your frustration over this matter. Regarding your card charge, on your bank statement does it show Dropbox, iTunes or Google Play?
When deleting your account, could you try switching browsers to see if this helps?

Thanks for your response. So after a lot more time in this hole I discovered that in April 2021 dropbox sent me an email with “we will downgrade your Dropbox if you don’t update a payment method”. So they downgraded it from a plus account to a basic account. I’ve made this tangled web so difficult; it’s paid via PayPal who takes it from my bank if I don’t have enough funds, so my bank says PayPal and PayPal says Apple.
So I went onto apple support, and claimed a refund but seems I can only go back two months? I’ll take that up with Apple.
Regardless, I still can’t delete my Dropbox. I tried on my phone too and that just said unknown error as well.
I do have a folder in there which I was added into … does this count as a “team” thing that I have to leave before I can delete my account? Also, does it matter if some files are shared with other people? Is that why I can’t leave? Is it because it hasn’t synced in ages? I deleted stuff to make space because it said it was over it’s limit.
I read somewhere that a basic account will automatically delete after 12 months. If that was the case, it should have deleted in April this year?

I have followed the instructions to delete my account. I get an ERROR 500 message when I click the tab to delete.
I don't want to simply cancel my subscription I want to delete my account permanently.
It seems Dropbox makes it impossible to delete you account. Conveniently, there is no way to contact Dropbox. You must deal with their COMMUNITY to find a way. Of course, the COMMUNITY can't help with deleting an account because they still have their account, obviously.
Does anyone have an answer for this?

Hey, I did that. Did you read what I wrote? "I followed the instructions..." Try it yourself with a ghost account and you will find that you can't delete your account upon will... You get notices that Dropbox will start to delete your files after 30 or 60 days but you don't get any notice that your account (i.e. personal acct info) will be deleted) ... I only started an acct to receive one file from a music producer because they wanted to send it with drop box. I did not know I would be signing on to an information gathering and selling entity that has no way to contact them and gives no way delete my personal info.
