Can't scroll from one photo to another on the mobile app

Recently I have been unable to scroll through my photos in Dropbox. I have to click one for it to load, view it, then go back and select the next one to load. This is extremely cumbersome and counter intuitive. Previously there was a scroll function which now seems to be removed on the mobile app. How can this be reversed?

  • Ahh, thank you for sharing those details, I think I see what's happening. We've been adding support for previewing more file types, which changed the way the app works for many users of external apps that manage their files in Dropbox. To fix this we updated the behavior so that if you have a default app set for a file type within the Dropbox app, files open in that app when you tap them, instead of our Preview. It sounds like you have your phone's gallery app set as the default app for viewing images in Dropbox, so it's not using our preview to show the file, but downloading it and opening it in the Gallery app, which doesn't know anything about the other files in the folder in Dropbox.

To fix this, if you tap "Manage default apps" in the settings screen of the Dropbox app, you can remove your default app preference for photo files.

You can still open files in your gallery by tapping "Open with..." from the menu on the file in Dropbox, or the open with icon in the image preview in Dropbox, and selecting your phone's gallery.

Please let us know if that resolves the issue. Sorry for the confusion this change caused.

Hey EireBorne, thanks for bringing this to our attention.

I just checked this on my own device and it seems to be working fine for me (iOS 17.2.1).

What kind of device are you using?

Are you on the most recent version of both your OS and the Dropbox app?

Let me know and we'll go from there.

      Hi Hannah, thanks for replying.

This issue is present on both my phone and tablet (both Android when using the app) which have both been updated with the latest Dropbox version which seems to be the 16th of January?

        Hi EireBorne.

I'm Ryan, an engineer on the Android Previews team. I appreciate you sharing this issue with us. I've just tested locally and am not able to reproduce the issue, so I'd love some more info to help me solve this for you.

First, paging between items when previews is disabled when in immersive mode (i.e. the top and bottom bars aren't showing). This is to allow you to freely zoom and pan without accidentally switching to a different preview. Single tapping anywhere on the screen should bring the bars back, after which you should be able to swipe between files.

If that doesn't appear to be the issue you're experiencing, could you please share how you are entering the photo preview when you experience this issue? Are you tapping a photo in the "Photos" tab? A file in a folder? A shared link? Something from the "Home" tab? That might help narrow down what's causing this.

Thanks for taking the time to share so we can help get this resolved.

        Best
