Hmm, if they don't appear in the All files page, then they are not actually saved to your account, I'm afraid.
Could they be files you opened from links your wife might have shared with you?
Can you search for them through the search bar at the top right corner of the page, to see if you can locate them?

Welcome aboard the forum, cbankston!
Can you please clarify what you mean when asking how it’s possible to view the online files both with the app and with File Explorer? If you can also send over a screenshot, so that I can have a visual, that’d be great.
Give me a nudge when you have more updates.

When I viewed my Dropbox account page online I saw multiple files in the Home section of the page. None of these files were shown by the Dropbox app on my PC. The app and other file browsers on my computer showed only the files that were on my hard drive in the Dropbox folder. Shouldn't I be able to access all the online files with the app? If so, how can that be done?

Hey cbankston, if both your Dropbox desktop app and the website are signed in to the same Dropbox account, all the saved files should appear in both places.
If I understand correctly, you have some files online, that do not show up in your local Dropbox folder.
Do the files online only appear in the Home tab? Or are you also able to access them from the All files page?
And do they perhaps contain any of the incompatible characters in this article?

The files appeared only in the Home section, not in All Files. They were PDF files, so no incompatible characters. They were uploaded to my account by my wife before she opened her own account, where they now reside.
