Windows
1147 TopicsThe desktop app on Windows isn't starting up, why?
I purchased a new computer and am running Windows. When I start my computer a box pops up that says "Dropbox Can't Open". It gives the error message of C:Users\Owner\AppData\Local\Temp\dropbox_error-r3btez.txt I checked my firewall security and it is allowing Dropbox. I have talked to Geek Squad and they could not find the issue. Any suggestions on what the issue is and what I can do to fix it would be appreciated.17Views0likes5CommentsI've installed the Dropbox for Windows update and now I can't make my files offline anymore.
I just got "upgraded" to the newest version of the Dropbox client for Windows, v213.3.4480. After it did the upgrade, it told me that there was some "new update" for Windows, so (perhaps stupidly) I went ahead and agreed to it. Now, all Dropbox files no longer have a status overlay on the icon, but there is a new column in Windows File Explorer that indicates file status. In essence, it appears they've separated the overlay and assigned them their very own column. The new application gave me a quick "tour" of the new "overlay" icons that have been separated out, which appear to be much the same as the ones that were originally overlaid, just larger and in a separate column. My problem, now, is that everything is coming up "Available," but not "Available Offline" as I originally had them set prior to the upgrade. I never asked Dropbox to change this attribute in any form or fashion, and I didn't give it permission to. I have plenty of space on my HDD, so I can assure you it's not an issue of lacking space. There was otherwise no need to change this attribute. Your help article says that if I want to change the file's availability to "Available Offline" (solid green circle/white check), then I need to go to the file(s) and right-click on them for a context menu and select "Make available offline." The problem is that this item does not exist in the context menu for files in my Dropbox. So, folks, how do I undo Dropbox' wanton disregard for my preference and get it back the way I want it? An answer to this, I feel, is categorically warranted. I await. (I'd upload screenshots, but this forum won't allow uploads, it seems.)70Views0likes6CommentsI get an error message that Windows System Restore failed?
Hi When I run Windows System Restore it fails with this error message System Restore failed to replace the file (D:\Users\*******\Dropbox\.dropbox.cache\qebcobkqbgbzfynfuwbof\placeholder.bat) with its original copy from the restore point. An unspecified error occurred during restore. (0x80070780) I have completed system recovery from an image without problem but on several occasions I have come up against this error when trying to correct a problem using system restore which would be easier to use if I could. I still have the problem if I run the system restore in safe mode with the same failour message Any suggestions on allowing the restore to work RichardSolved29KViews3likes144CommentsSync icons are missing in Explorer on Windows 10
The green icons next to files and folders signifying whether file(s) are on-line or off-line only are no lonher displaring. It was at one time showing a green checkmark or an empty cloud icon, now, nothing. When I rigt click on the file, the dropdown menu still give me the option to choose whether to make available on-line only or local. I'm running Win 10 on a Lenovo T530 Laptop. Any help would be apptrciated. Thanks.Solved36Views0likes8CommentsInstall Error 1073741795 on 2 different computers.
Hello, To Computers in an Office were suddenly not opening Dropbox. They are both on Windows 11. There is a 3rd PC in the Office that is the same as 1 of the problem ones, and its working fine. I tried to uninstall the apps from them, but both said "Uninstall Failed". I ended up having to manually wipe and use a Program to find and force full removal to start fresh. I did a DISM and SFC, then a CHKDSK. I proceeded to reinstall, and both get an error code unknown error (Error: -1073741795). I tried to use download and user the Full Installer Version. Nothing. To help with any conflicts, I did a clean boot. Nothing. I can seem to install anymore. They are AIO PC's, one is a Lenovo, the other a HP. As mentioned, there is a 3rd PC that is the same HP Model, and Dropbox works fine. I can't seem to find straight answers on how to resolve this, I am supporting someone else, so don't know how that will go since I have to pay for a subscription to get live support. Don't know how to proceed, so I hope a community member knows exactly whats up and how to resolve this.46Views0likes7CommentsHow does the Back button work in Windows Explorer?
Our CEO uses Dropbox and recently we witness a issue I'm not seeing a resolution for here. He stated that it started within the last couple weeks, but when navigating DropBox folders when using the back arrow it will sometimes take him to a random folder in DropBox. He has hundreds of folders and some 6+ subfolders deep. It will take him to a folder when he is trying to go back that is not in the same subfolder and he has to start back at the root folder of Dropbox.30Views0likes2CommentsThe Dropbox icon in my system tray is not responding
I received an email from Dropbox about the Backup feature. When I click on the Dropbox icon on my Windows taskbar nothing happens so I can't click on the avatar and go to preferences and then click backup. I have the latest Dropbox app on my PC. I have turned on and off and then on the Dropbox and then restarted my computer but that didn't help. Please suggest other remedies to fix this issue.17Views0likes2CommentsCan I use OneDrive MS Office Collaboration within the Dropbox folder?
I am a huge fan of Dropbox and trust them with my files. I am currently using Dropbox as a real-time backup for my file server and users access these documents over the network. Some of us users collaborate at the same time on Excel documents using the antiquated Shared Workbook feature. This collaborative process needs to be replaced with MS Co-Author feature that's built into OneDrive. I don't trust OneDrive with my files as it is not truly backing up my files in real-time. I believe OneDrive caches file changes in a Temp folder and then uploads whenever it wants to, sometimes never. I have had a number of documents that were manually saved 50 plus times even with the auto-save feature enable, closed out of these files. A day later I ran a Temp file cleanup using a utility. Then later on that day or next day opened my documents and they had reverted to their original state. There was no file change history either that I could revert back to. On a standalone computer, can I install Dropbox, then install OneDrive inside of that folder. Then I can share documents from/to the OneDrive account on the Standalone computer to other users and my separate work computer's OneDrive account? This way I can get the Co-Author feature my team needs, while having Dropbox save true backups of my teams files as they make changes?24Views0likes1CommentWindows Server 2019: LTS App Still Shows Unsupported OS Message
I'm using Dropbox on Windows Server 2019, and recently it stopped working, saying, "Support for Windows 7, 8, and 8.1 has ended." They provided a link to download a "Long-Term Support" app, but after installing it, I’m still getting the same message, and it won’t launch. Has anyone else experienced this? It's frustrating, especially since I already installed the recommended LTS app. Any advice or workarounds?487Views6likes21Comments
