Hello all, Dropbox user since decades back. I'm on Mac Silicon (M1 laptop, 8GB RAM). Dropbox takes up ≈5GB out of my 8. Obviously a problem, and googling around reveals that this has plagued Dropbox since at least 2021. I know there are thousands of users suffering from this, and I also know I can restart Dropbox every morning to keep it in check - but I was wondering if anyone actually found a longterm solution? Data: MacOS 11.6 8GB RAM Dropbox version 208.4.5824 Selective Sync on (Only sync about half of my folders) Amount of files in Dropbox: around 43'000 files&folders Most folders "online only" (to save HDD space) Dropbox Badge: off Symptom: RAM-usage after a Dropbox restart: ≈600MB. RAM-usage after 7 days: ≈4-6GB. (No major changes to Dropbox content during this period) Thanks in advance, / A351Views0likes6CommentsDropbox app doesn't launch automatically in the menu bar (Mac)
Since I updated Dropbox recently, the app no longer launches automatically nor does it appear in the top toolbar whenever I start up my MacBook. I have to manually launch it every time. I have looked at my list of login items in Mac Preferences, and Dropbox is definitely checked. Does anyone know if I can make the app launch automatically again?11Views0likes1CommentThe app re-indexes all files after each restart on Mac.
Each time I restart my Mac, Dropbox goes through reindexing of (seemingly) all files in my folder. The Mac's CPU usage goes up and the fan kicks in - it makes the computer slow for at least 15 minutes. It does finally complete, but it would obviously be much better if this did not happen.13Views0likes3CommentsAfter using the Apple Migration Assistant, I ended up with two Dropbox folders.
I have used Apple's Migration Assistant to move all my content from one Mac to a new Mac. I keep all of my Dropbox files on my computer, so all my Dropbox files are transferred to the new Mac. Now Dropbox is creating a new Dropbox folder and downloading all of my files. How should I best handle this?47Views0likes6CommentsI don't see the "transfer a copy" option for non-Dropbox files on my Mac computer.
I've mostly been a Windows user, and use a MacBook for on the go. Lately I've been using MacOS a bit more and one thing I am missing from windows, is the ability to send any file (even ones that are not in your Dropbox) via Dropbox Transfer, by right clicking the file and then choosing "Transfer a copy..." or whatever it is on Windows. Is that feature not available on mac? Or is there just something wrong with my finder context menu? I noticed Dropbox Backup today, looks good for my needs as a long time solo user w/ a 2TB account. Selected documents and music folders in my Mac user account, all looked OK then....nothing, no movement. Stuck at 0% even though it says updating 2,367 files and 1 sec remaining. Nothing, nada. I've rebooted, removed the external drive I wanted to also backup, re-installed Dropbox, no other cloud service-connected files are present in anything I want to backup, tried automatic backups on and off....but nothing. The 'Backup now' is also greyed out whatever I do. I've looked at various Db help pages but nothing. Any ideas appreciated. Also why no Backup label? I'm migrating from an iMac with Mojave to a mini with Sequoia. Time machine run well and installed everything smoothly (of course I have to update some of the apps to the new OS). It looks like Sequoia is not allowing creating folders inside Macintosh hd, so my folders's structure has to be reorganized. There's an issue limiting my flexibility in managing the situation: my dropbox folder is taking up space in Macintosh HD > Users > My Name > Dropbox Any advice? Thank you!13Views0likes1CommentWhy are folders that I've unchecked in my app settings not removed from my Mac hard drive?
Unexpectedly all my online Dropbox folders are now appearing in my Dropbox folder on my Mac hardrive, despite all the folders showing unchecked in the sync function in preferences. Am I doing something wrong?Solved23Views0likes3Comments
