Dropbox stuck uploading and downloading on Windows
Dropbox has been happily working in the background for several years, keeping a useful backup of my important data, which I store in a folder named "Dropbox". However, without me noticing it stopped working about two weeks ago, so all the work I have done since then wasn't backed up. When I realised this I hovered on on the Dropbox icon at the bottom-right and it says "Indexing 40,023 files, Uploading 19,948 files, Downloading 23,138 files". I left it for several hours but nothing changed. Resource Monitor shows the Dropbox.exe is using 18% of CPU resourced and constanlt reading and writing file on the hard drive. I read that a possible solution is to open Dropbox >> Preferences >> Accounts, press Alt anywhere in the window then Fix Hardlinks and Fix permissions, but that makes no difference. I also tried re-booting the machine but that made no difference either. In desperation I uninstalled Dropbox then re-installed it. However, that was disasterous! it downloaded all my data from the cloud (which was several weeks out-of-date) and loaded it onto my laptop with today's date! Fotunately in many cases it retained the original folder, renamed named "xxx - copy" and created a new folder "xxx" with the downloaded data. I had to look through all my Dropbox folder, deleting each "xxx" folder and renaming "xxx - copy" to "xxx". Fortunately I also do a local backup every night of most of the folders in my Dropbox folder so I was able to restore some of my data from that. However, even after that the original problem still persists so Drobox isn't backing up. A further issue is that although I have set Dropbox preferences to Open Dropbox upon startup, it doesn't open at startup. Furthermore when I checked Startup Apps in Windows Control Panel it shows Dropbox as disabled. I re-enambled it, but next time I re-boot it is disabled again. What's gone wrong with Dropbox! Hello, since Weeks i have the same Problem on my Windows Desktop App. Dropbox ist starting after reboot but it loads endlessly.... nothing happend I tried... Deaktivate Antivirus completley Reboot several Times Reinstall the App 6 times.. Remove all devices in Account but nothing changed... i always have the same bug maybee you have a solution for me... Family Room icon is missing on Mac, and when viewed under Get Info, the icon flickers on and off. Have tried: - Turning folder off entirely via selective sync, then back on - Making folder online-only - Downloading entire folder Here's a link to a screen recording: link removed to avoid traffic.
After a system restore, it seems that I now have two Dropbox folders. Can I delete 1?
After messing about with file restore, I ended up having to run system restore to undo my poking. This has left me with 2 copies of Dropbox 1 renamed to Dropbox (Old), all the files appear to be there in both, so Can I just delete 1? and if so does it matter which. Cheers Bill
Confusion after migrating to Sequoia on new Mac
I just migrated my MacBook Pro running Sonoma to a Mac Mini M4 running Sequoia. The migrated Dropbox app wouldn't open so I trashed it and downloaded a new one. On the MacBook Pro my Dropbox appears under Locations. It appeared in the same place after migrating to the Mac mini, but when I logged into my DB account on the Mac mini, it created a Dropbox folder in Favourites. The one under Locations now says "This is an unlinked Dropbox." Can I now trash this? Is it right that DropBox is now a Favourite folder? The new Dropbox (in Favourites) is Online Only. This is a shared Dropbox and contains GBs of folders I don't need regular access to, but a couple that I do. As far as I can see I can only get these folders by downloading the whole Dropbox, which I really don't want to do. (And I don't want to use Selective Sync because I occasionally need a file from one of the folders that are Online Only.) I've been managing all this with Dropbox's Finder contextual menus, but they don't appear on the Mac mini. I don't know where the Dropbox Finder extension should appear in Sequoia, but it doesn't appear in System Setting>Extensions>Finder. In my account at Dropbox.com, Dropbox System Extension is enabled. Can you help me sort out this mess?
Low space on internal drive, and added an external one. But now content is added to both of them.
I have run low on space on my internal drive and added an external drive for my Dropbox. I have gone through the process of connecting and syncing my Dropbox account to my new external Dropbox drive. However, it appears that any files I add or remove from my new Dropbox external drive are also being added and removed from my Dropbox folder on my internal system drive. When I look at Dropbox Preferences, I see that the location is set to sync only with my external Dropbox drive. I have restarted my computer and the problem persists. Any suggestions?
Dropbox icon not displaying current files/folders when clicking on the Dropbox icon in the menu bar
Since the last few days, the Dropbox icon in the menu bar (MacOS) has stopped displaying files and folders. As soon as I type "files or folders" in the search bar, it displays all contents. Any changes I make (add / delete) are reflected when I use the search bar. I've tried various solutions suggested by Dropbox and other posts on the net, including uninstalling and reinstalling but nothing works. Any assistance would be appreciated.Dropbox needs to change permissions for the Folder...
Mid-December, my Mac updated to the latest OS. macOS Sequoia 15.2 (24C101). Since then, Dropbox needs to change permissions for the Folder: /Users/ ############/.dropbox every time I restart my Mac and a few times throughout the day. I have tried to check every permission possible to no avail. I have also uninstalled and reinstalled Dropbox with admin privileges. Any ideas to resolve this small annoyance? Cheers
