I’ve just found out when you change Laptop / Desktop you can’t continue to use the same external hard drive with Dropbox Backup. This is absolute madness. If you want to continue to use that hard drive with Dropbox Backup you have to re upload the full HD. I have 2TB used on a 4TB external SSD and I’ve just changed to a new MacBook. I’m having to spend three days uploading / backing-up all my data again just to continue to use that same drive with the new device. What a waste of energy, electricity, data and bandwidth. For no reason. My old backup is sitting there in my account with all the same data and I just have to re-upload 2TB of the exact same files for no reason other than Dropbox can’t set up a way to re-link an external hard drive on on a new system. I can’t believe this is the current state of affairs for this service.570Views2likes8CommentsBackup folder name change
Hello! I have 2 macs, one personal and one for work. Both had backup enabled and when I went online, I saw both computers' backup directories. The directories were both in the format of "My Mac (computername)" However, recently I disabled the Dropbox backup on my work laptop because I didn't think it would be wise to backup my work stuff to Dropbox. But I was subsequently told it was OK, so I re-enabled the backup. While everything was uploaded to Dropbox just fine, the name of the work laptop backup directory is now simply "Mac (2)". I would like to rename the folder to the "My Mac" format I previously had, but it is not letting me rename the folder. Any assistance would be great. Thanks in advance.Solved9.2KViews12likes43CommentsI don't see my external drive backup files, even though the backup is completed.
It's my first time using Dropbox Backup and I wanted to backup my external hard drive before I change the settings on it. On the Dropbox Backup homepage, it says backup is completed, but when I click to view backed up files, only my folders are there and nothing else. I've checked on multiple computers and still nothing. Please help.719Views0likes7CommentsCan't delete my Dropbox Backup
Hi, I have a Backup set up for a PC that no longer exists. I cannot delete the backup. The help says to login, goto settings-security tab, select the device to log it out, so the backup can be deleted. The device does not exist in my list. The instructions make sense but there appears to be something wrong. If there is nothing wrong with what I am doing how do you contact support to get it fixed? Cheers, Garry2.5KViews0likes16CommentsI enabled external drive backup, but it says 0K has been backed up.

I added one folder from my D drive to my Dropbox backup and it quickly backed up about 200 files and then stopped. Nothing else got backed up. So, I deleted that folder from Dropbox and added it again, with the same result. Can anyone tell me what's going on?562Views0likes10CommentsHow does Dropbox backup differ to the standard syncing?
Hi there, I have implemented Dropbox on my laptop as the folder where I have all my files and folders saved and synchronized in real time. This is what I call the Dropbox memory. Now I learned about Dropbox backups and my question is: What do I need this for? Doesn't it overlap with the "memory" function? When I connected an external hard disk, I was asked if I want to save the files in a Dropbox backup. I clicked YES and now the hard disk files are stored as a backup in the cloud. This is great. So, it doesn't seem to be possible, at least not with a private license, to save the external hard disk files in the same way as I save my laptop hard disk files. So, the backup is a nice alternative. But again: For the files in my laptop hard disk that are saved and synchronized directly under the Dropx box folder, my impression is that a backup doesn't make sense (and even doesn't seem to be possible). Does this more or less make sense? Best Thomas478Views0likes3CommentsAlias Folders
I had to re-sync Dropbox recently and when I sync the app on my iMac Dropbox creates locked alias folders for Desktop, Downloads and Documents. Do I have to wait for the files to sync and the localize the files fromDesktop, Downloads and Documents? Hello, My account shows that it's out of storage, I have only 180MB in regular files and a 33GB backup, but I don't see it anywhere else than in the subscription page. Nothing on the backups page. I can't delete this file to free up the space. Where can I find access to it?Solved311Views0likes4CommentsDownload Dropbox backup folder to synology
Dropbox backup keeps giving me an error that there are too many zip files when I u to download my root folder. It is a backup of an external hdd which was physically damaged. Since I cannot download the root with the web ui, could I use synology or another app to download the entire Dropbox backup folder with an app instead of a web browser?737Views0likes5Comments
