It's no longer possible to open Dropbox files in native applications

Is it no longer possible to open files in native applications (Adobe Acrobat DC, Photoshop, etc.) from the Dropbox file viewer? Dropbox suddenly seems to restrict all viewing and editing to built-in, web-based editors.

The "open" option seems to have disappeared. If I'm missing something, please point me in the right direction!

If it has disappeared, this is a huge hit to my workflow. I use Dropbox and organize and store documents and make them available across several devices. But I need all the functionality of native applications for viewing and editing -- and am used to getting to it with a couple of clicks.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hey sboerner, thanks for reaching out to our Community.

Can you let us know which platform you're seeing this behavior on? Is it the website, mobile app or desktop app?

Also, if you can send us a screenshot of any errors you're getting, it would be really helpful for us.

    Thanks!

Hi Hannah, thank you for your response.

I may have jumped the gun. Today it is working fine. See screenshot. However, yesterday the "Open in" option was NOT present in the dropdown menu, and I looked for it while opening several Dropbox files in the browser. Does this make any sense at all?

Next time I will wait, or try another browser first.

Thanks for the update here, sboerner.

I'm glad to see that today everything is working as it should.

Perhaps there was a temporary issue with the browser cache or the site itself, but indeed, when it comes to website issues, our suggestion is always to try another browser first, just to compare the behavior.

In any case, let us know if you need anything else!
