I noticed that videos from my iPhone 12 Pro Max, which originally had high quality due to Dolby Vision (HDR) technology, completely lost this technology and quality after I uploaded them to Dropbox. I conducted various tests (uploads from iPhone and PC, and file views) and ultimately found that uploading via iPhone results in a total loss of Dolby Vision (HDR) technology and quality, even if the file size is maintained.
Now, I am seeking a solution to regain this technology in the videos that lost it after being uploaded to Dropbox, and later, to discover how to upload videos with this quality via the app without losing it. If anyone can help me and guide me on how to restore this Dolby Vision technology and quality in the videos that lost it due to Dropbox upload, I would greatly appreciate it. Additionally, if there is a way to use Dropbox via iPhone without losing video quality, please teach me. Thank you in advance
Hey @Sylvan , welcome to our Community!
Keep in mind, that the mobile Dropbox app uploads your content in full resolution.
However, when you try to preview them inside the app, you will see a scaled down version for faster loading.
With that being said, do you notice the same behavior in the loss of the HDR quality, even if you upload the content to Dropbox, and then you download it locally to the device?
Do you happen to have any screenshots, in order for us to have a visual too?
Keep us posted, and we'll take it from there!

I conducted several tests. I uploaded video files with DOLBY VISION (HDR) quality, downloaded them later on both the computer and the phone to watch the videos in appropriate programs that support DOLBY VISION. In all cases, I observed the loss of DOLBY VISION due to Dropbox. Even the iPhone itself, when playing the video file, indicates the presence of HDR. I trusted the Dropbox upload, but now I am at a disadvantage as I lost the quality of various videos that I uploaded to Dropbox. I am trying to find a way to regain the quality and then explore if there is any way to upload to Dropbox without losing video quality.
Hey @Sylvan , thanks for the added info!
If you compare a file before uploading it to Dropbox, and after uploading to Dropbox and downloading it again, do you notice any change in the metadata/size/etc?
Can you attach some screenshots here, in order for us to have a visual too?
Also, do you upload the content manually by pressing the + button, or using camera uploads? If you do it using a different way, let me know.

I will run more tests and generate a report on the results. Initially, I observed that most of the photos I sent via the app's plus function successfully uploaded the file. However, when I later downloaded them, they had lost the DOLBY VISION and were in H.264 format, completely devoid of DOLBY VISION. I am conducting tests and analyzing files that were sent via the app's native download feature, without using the plus function, and I will test new videos as well. How can I send videos and photos here (on this forum)? I await instructions.
Sure thing @Sylvan !
Take your time, and let us know what you find once you're ready. 🤓
As for videos & photos, you can't attach videos, but you can click on the camera-like icon in order to attach your screenshots there.
If you're using your mobile, you might need to access our Community through a browser, and request the desktop mode, in order to see the option.
I'll be waiting for your updates!
