Re: Old Account

Can't access email to get 6-digit code

I can login successfully,  but needs me to check 6-digit code in email.

Before immigration, login dropbox never needs me to check 6-digit code in email.

After immigration, it needs me to check 6-digit code in email. (same computer)

My email account was disabled (long time no use and I forgot the password), I can't login to my email to check the 6-digit code.

I only want to login Dropbox without check email 6-digit code, so what can I do?

Thanks

I don't have the phone or email associated with my account and I don't know what to do? Any ideas?

Hey @Wolfdickdotmpeg, sorry to see that you have trouble accessing your account.

Do you have any devices linked to the account maybe?

Here's an article with some info on accessing an account, when you don't have access to the email address, as well.

I have Drop box account that is linked to an email that is no longer valid.  When logging on, this app insists on sending a code to the defunct email to grant access.  Obviously, I cannot see that code and cannot get access to my files.   How do I change the access from the defunct email to the new email?

Thank you

Hey @Jaimo, sorry to hear about this.

I moved your post to a thread with info relevant to your issue.

Would it be possible to reach out to your email service provider to help you reinstate your email address or can you possibly recreate it?

Hey @LPH, can we send you an email to the address associated with your Community profile here, to check if there's something that can be done?

  • I haven't used the Dropbox account in years.
  • I have a working username & pw, apparently.
  • The email address on-file with DB is inoperative, belongs to a non-existent domain.
  • My logon attempt results in a Code sent to the inoperative email address.
  • I see the following message, telling me to check my email for the code, which is an impossible to do, since the email has been inoperative for years.
  • I need to update the DB account, to change the email address, et. al. How can I logon, since I can never learn the Code that is sent?

PS: I am NOT logged on to the inaccessible DB account as I type this. My other account, this one, works fine.

Thanks!

How long ago did you last log in @TNSteve ? If its over 12 months ago the account data has gone: https://help.dropbox.com/account-access/email-about-inactive-account

Even if the account data has been wiped you would still get that screen asking for a PIN to log on if needed as Dropbox does recognise you had an account.

There is no way to log on without having the email to a valid email address (however, it isn't worth it if its over 12 months since last login): https://help.dropbox.com/account-access/lost-email-access

Thanks, Mark.

I'm fairly certain it's been more than 12 months since accessing that account, so it sounds like my only action is to abandon that account and create a new one, if needed, in the future. (Our non-profit has moved to google Drive, so we no longer use DB.)

If there was data on the inaccessible DB account, we haven't missed it!
