Can I share a video with my family without having any issues with copyright?

Hi there,

I'm new to Dropbox.

I was advised just now by the chat bot to search the FAQs relating to privacy and GDPR but the anwer to my query is not there.

It was also suggested that I email my question to 'privacy@dropbox.com' - which I've just done.
And I was advised to also ask the community. I had previously searched the community and could see replies saying that a ticket should be raised as each copyright issue is specific and there's not a general answer.
But here's the question I emailed, in case any of you have had a similar specific question..

 

At my mum's private wake recently, we showed an hour-long MP4 video with family photos.

We set it to tracks of her favourite music that meant a lot to her, such as some Walt Disney songs, some jazz etc.

Mum's brother - in his 90s - came over from Austria and her sister from Scotland.

They'd like copies of the video, with the background music, but the file is too big to send as an attachment by email.

Am I permitted to upload it to Dropbox privately and share it with them that way? (privately).

 

I only have a free account so I’m not able to pay to raise a ticket with customer support.
However, I need the answer to this question before I even think about opting for an upgraded paid subscription.

    Since you’ve already logged a ticket though with our dedicated team (at privacy@dropbox.com), I’d suggest waiting for their reply and confirmation, as well.
