Any updates? I still cannot create a file in word app and save it to Dropbox without it turning out as read only.
- dluptonmd2 years agoCollaborator | Level 9If you will go back and read my entries in the thread, and those of others, I think you'll see the problem described pretty well. I can open any old Dropbox file with the word app and work on it and save it back to Dropbox without any problem. But I cannot create a new file in the word app and save it to dropbox without it being marked as read only in word. And in fact the file never gets to Dropbox. It never actually gets saved to Dropbox though the word recent doc list shows it as a Dropbox file. No problem creating a new file in the word app and saving it to one drive or to my device. I have the most recent versions of both apps and I have uninstalled and reinstalled them multiple times.

One issue I'm still not clear about regarding this problem is the relationship between installing individual MS apps like Word or Excel or PowerPoint separately from the store as opposed to installing the entire Microsoft Suite. The latter seems to appear as a separate item in the app store. Sometimes I get the impression they connect to each other when all of them are installed through this item and perhaps that is causing problems here? I have tried deleting all MS apps AND the integrated app and reinstalling just separate apps. But that doesn't seem to help either.
- marloweloy2 years agoHelpful | Level 6As of this writing, I am not having any issues anymore. It's been like this for the past 3 days. Kindly check it on your end. I believe they fixed it already.
- dluptonmd2 years agoCollaborator | Level 9No. Problem persists for me still as of a minute ago. Any doc created on word app and saved to Dropbox app is read only and never gets to Dropbox Thx, though. Are you working with Android apps or on your computer?
- dluptonmd2 years agoCollaborator | Level 9And are you creating the new doc on the phone word app, not computer word, and saving it to Dropbox? I'm using an s20 ultra note to do all the work, start to finish. I only have the problem with new docs. I can open an old Dropbox doc from app and edit it in word app and save back to Dropbox without any problem. Thx.
- marloweloy2 years agoHelpful | Level 6Yes I have tried creating a new Doc and tried saving it and it all works now. It takes few seconds to save though. Could you try restarting your phone maybe? When was the last time you did a power cycle?
- marloweloy2 years agoHelpful | Level 6We can all now have a good sleep. At some point I have been saving it using one drive since I have a free terabytes space from them but Dropbox is way better for me.
- dluptonmd2 years agoCollaborator | Level 9I can't sleep yet. Problem persists. I have restarted phone several times. I'll try a reinstall of word app. Thx.
- david u.42 years agoHelpful | Level 5I reinstalled the word app and then, as in the past, the app works, I can create and save a new word doc to Dropbox, for a few minutes. And I can reopen it and edit it and save it. Then, a few minutes later, when I try to create a new doc in word again, in the middle of creating it (with the default save set to Dropbox) the read only message pops up. And the word app continues to create read only docs from that point on. Are you all creating your new docs in your word app, setting dropbox as your default save, and then saving successfully?

I resolved the problem. As far as I remember I resolved it by removing and reïnstalling the dropbox and microsoft office app. After that I selected the word app in the office app and put it in the startpage. Here I made dropbox a new location. Despite the fact that I have a glasfiber internet connection there are times that the dropbox connection is too busy. In that case I get 'read only' warnings. I resolved this bij being more patient.
