Getting an error when editing a Word file via Android app

Getting an error when editing a Word file via Android app

In using the Dropbox android app, every time I edit a doc with word and attempt to save, I get a message which recycles endlessly, 'looking for 365 account.' And then there are 3 pages of adds for Microsoft 365. I have a 365 account, but it is not recognized. I can work around this, but it is a pain.

Hi @dluptonmd, thanks for bringing this to our attention.

Just for clarification, are you opening the Dropbox app first, and then attempting to edit a Word file via the app, which would then open the official Word app?

Are you on a stable WiFi connection, or using cellular data?

This will help me to assist further!

Yes. Opening the Dropbox app first and editing Dropbox file with word 'always.'

If you're not on a Dropbox Basic plan with more than 3 devices connected, could you try uninstalling the app, rebooting the device, and re-installing it to see if this helps?

Could you also try uninstalling and reinstalling the Word app as well?

I did, twice. I also uninstalled and reinstalled Dropbox.

It sounds like there might be an issue with the Office app, since you don't need a 365 subscription to edit Word files via Dropbox, and the message is relating to their subscription service.

Have you tried contacting Microsoft support for further assistance on this matter?

Yes and they say it's a Dropbox issue! I don't know why I'm getting this message-advertisement but I am. I think it's a Dropbox problem because I don't have issues with word in other apps, including onedrive. And frankly, the Dropbox app, in general, is misbehaving. The recent docs list is completely messed up. But that's an issue for another day. Thx

Are you only getting this for Word files, or does it occur for Excel files as well?

What plan do you currently have according to this page

dropbox basic plan.

only for word files. I only use word.

one other thing. It used to be until this problem developed that when I opened a Dropbox file with word, the doc would appear on the Dropbox and the word recent docs list, but now the doc no longer shows up on the word recent docs list. Thx.

Sorry to jump in here, @dluptonmd .

If you open the Word app, and tap on the folder icon, do you see Dropbox as an option to choose files from?
