What is the difference between a .lnk file and other files in my online Dropbox account

This afternoon I worked on my movie database file and noticed that I now have two files with the same data but different names and file extension.

One file ends in .lnk    This is a type of file I have never seen before when working in Dropbox.

The second file ends in .amm   This is the file extension normally used by my movie database file and I routinely see in when working with my files in Dropbox.

What is a .lnk file and how did it get created?

  • .lnk files are shortcuts - they are not the actual file they simply point to the file in another place on your device. Dont back them up or you will loose data. They can only be in Dropbox if you added in (often accidentally dragging and dropping causes shortcuts to be created).

Note this means at the moment if only the .lnk file is there your movie database is NOT being sync'd to Dropbox
