I navigate to where the folder is and take the steps to remove access.
But there is no drop-down by my name. I can't leave the folder. Why? See below.
If you simply delete the folder itself, and not the files within the folder, then it will remove the folder which will free up your quota, and later give you chance to join it again if need be.
You can later permanently remove it from the shared folder page.

Hi @MattMurphy, thanks for bringing this to our attention.
In order to understand where you saw this, are you viewing this page from the shared folders page?
Are you the owner of the folder? Are you trying to leave the shared folder, or permanently remove your access to the folder?
This will help me to assist further!

Hey Jay. Seeing it on dropbox.com. I want to remove my access, so it no longer shows up in my folder on my comp.
Okay, what happens if you delete the folder from the normal Dropbox page, where it's visible in your files?

I am hesitant to do that, because it is not my folder. Will it delete the original?
