Some people deal with confidential files and use Dropbox for these. It would be very useful to allow people the option to clear their "Recent" files at will to allow more privacy and discretion.

I know there was a thread about this two years ago, but has this been changed since then? Is there any way to clear recently viewed files from the home page?
- Mike S.25Helpful | Level 6Why can’t you program so we have the option to clear our recents file with out deleting the file
- Steven J.13Explorer | Level 4
Yeah it's bewildering that they cannot give us the option to clear... or turn it off. I just posted and didn't see this thread. I mean come on! If i was only accessing 'kid friendly' content then, sure why not, but people all around access personal, sensitive information all the time and don't want it "splash screened" as the first thing!

Hey there Scott - hope all's well at your end.
As per your inquiry now, if you are referring to the website version just find the recents section and click on the "Hide" button from the right hand side.
On the mobile application it is possible to hide the Recents list by going to
- Settings
- Advanced features
- Hide recent items on Home
I hope this helps scottgreider!
[EDIT: Since I seem to have missed your original question, I am adding this here Scott (apologies). It is currently not possible to clear items in the Recents list. I'll make sure that your comments are passed along to the development team as a feature request - thank you for the feedback!]

Walter,
This feature is oxymornig, it is useless.
I am specifically talking about the iOS or mobile app.
You have to go into account > settings and then select "Hide Recent"
But then you go to Recent tab and it says: "Recent items Hidden" and below it "Click here to unhind"
WHAT is the use of this. Why would I want to hide files and then give people the key to unhide it in the same place where the files used to be! Not only is it completely useless, it is dumb because it grabs a users attention! You might as well drop a line that says:
"Hey someone doesn't want you to see their recently viewed files! Wanna check what they're hiding ? Click here to unhide"I find this to be a design mockery !
Thank you.

On startup of Dropbox on my desktop (Windows 10, HP Laptop), I get a window that shows ("My Activity") the files I have updated etc in the last week/month/older. I would like to clear this history. How do I do it? (screenshot attached). Many thanks.

I also think this would be a good feature.
- PortnawakHelpful | Level 6
With the previous version, I was able to see at on glance which files had been changed by my team and which only by me directely when opening the menu bar on the desktop version. Now I must go from my activity to my team activity, comparing the hours to see if someone has changed something after me. It's not functional IMO but highly annoying.
So I wonder if it's only me grumbling at the changes or if some people find it easier to use? And most of all if there any way to change it back to what it was before?
Thanks
- LusilDropbox StaffHey there Portnawak,Thanks for posting your feedback regarding the Recents tab on our desktop app - we're always looking for ways to improve our apps and your feedback allows us to do just that.I'll make sure your comments are passed along to our dev team, so if you have any other comments you’d like me to forward, just give me a nudge. Thanks in advance!

you are not the only one! to be honest: i hate the new (dys)functionality of the menubar flyout. the previous version was just small & simple and it was easily integrated into my daily workflow. with the actual version i have always to think about, where to click (one click too much!) for getting the desired infos. unfortunately the running of an older client-version is not possible :-( my opinion: dropbox would not be my first choice for cloud-services nowadays with this overloaded garbage-non-usability. its a shame, in comparision with older versions! another big issue in macOS: the app-icon in the dock is always appearing now, no chance to remove it - i dont need it at all :-(
- LusilDropbox StaffHey lalelu-media, thanks for sharing your thoughts on this with us.I understand your trail of thought and I’ve made sure to add your comments to the feedback sent to our dev team.I’ve also moved this thread to the Share an idea section of the Community so as to keep track of your ideas. If there’s anything else I can help with, please don’t hesitate to get back to me. Cheers!
- Ellen U.1New member | Level 2I hate the new version. Dropbox has taken control of the interface. I want to set the view I want and have it be sticky. Don't make suggestions! The new interface in an insult to experienced users, a dumbed-down version that's telling you what to do, a victim of featuritis.

This idea is going to need a bit more support.
We've updated the status to encourage more users to back you up!
- AlbertoVillarExplorer | Level 4I totally agree with the idea of having platforms that really support privacy and take care of customers, free or under subscription. It's a shame that they need a tone of votes before they start moving their brains in order to come back with some solution. As a developer I would suggest that they implement one or more of the following: 1) Profile option to let us decide if we want to keep list(s) of recent documents 2) Profile option to automatically clear recent list on sign off 3) A button to clear all entries in the "recent" list There are more things that could be done. I will really appreciate that they stay far from the temptation of making these options available to subscribers only. Regards, Alberto
- shartyExplorer | Level 4The problem is worse because they are grabbing file activity outside of dropbox, I open up a will to work on and family members will see it pop up as a recent activity in dropbox. I don't need them seeing that, as an example. This is a typical software development cycle issue. They have a good product but feel they have to add more and more each time so you get a bloated program that ends up hurting the user. I guess we need more votes to get this looked at.

I hate this Recents feature so much. Why not give us the ability to just turn it off. I don't need it displayed so promimently. Windows has both the ability to clear recent files and also not show them in the Start Menu, both of these features are what is needed to solve this issue for all of the people that have been complaining about this since 2015 (based on all the other threads)
- Anonymous2000New member | Level 2
It truly is a disappointment that this issue still exists. I am currently looking into options to replace DropBox for my entire corporation, and abandon it completely.
F.Y.I.: I know of two other, much larger corporations, that are preparing to do the same thing (abandon DropBox), for the very same reason. You should listen to your PAYING customers... We do NOT want this feature forced upon us. We want the ability to CLEAR IT whenever we want, AND the ability to disable it in such a way that it no longer tracks activity unless we tell it to start again (with no record of any activity before we tell it to start again).

This is a vital privacy issue. Let me turn it off.
If I need to Find Some Recent File™, give me a search option.
