Add sFTP support for uploading files.

It's easy. sftp is supported on almost all platforms usable at present (much more than Dropbox supports - either software of hardware platforms). SSH (the base for sftp) is popular and confirmed secure. To be even more secure Dropbox may add auto-generated username and password to be used - not directly the accounts one - so easy some access to be granted and revoked whenever needed (similar to revoke linked device). In such a way all users would have access from devices that Dropbox doesn't need to support (support of the standard would be enough). Even though in such a way some features (specific to Dropbox) wouldn't be available, it's enough in many use cases (where just possibility for regular access to the data is enough).

In other words - support of just one standard is easier than support for uncountable number of Dropbox applications versions.

I am LITERALLY in the process of trying to piece together a convoluted process to be able to SFTP or FTPS images from events to -- eventually -- each client's dropbox folder.  In fact, I came to the community today to see if anyone has dropbox watching a Synology folder to automatically grab images that appear.

It would be frickin' awesome to have that functionality within dropbox....

I will add... most companies want to automate file transfers as much as possible.  sFTP is what makes this capability possible, especially from midrange systems like IBM i, IBM Power AIX and Mainframe systems...

If sFTP support was added, a company could trigger a script from an internal process to land in a desired DropBox folder.  Or, if expecting files, the application could monitor the folder for any new files meeting 'xyz' criteria.

This idea has been closed due to inactivity.
