Sync Status Notification
Hi I am wondering if someone can help me turn off a notification that comes onto my screen (sometimes on the bottom of the screen, sometimes right in the middle). It is continuous throughout the day...

Thanks Andrew
It is definitely a clash between OneDrive and Dropbox. However, OneDrive said it's Dropbox so it is difficult to resolve. Thanks for your help - I will have another look at the OneDrive settings.

Thank you for the screenshot, that really clears it being a Dropbox notification.
Looks like some app is moving files from your Dropbox folder that are marked as online-only (so they are just placeholders, without their contents being synced locally) to a location outside of the Dropbox folder.
Dropbox sees that and it gives that alert because if a placeholder file is moved outside of the Dropbox folder then it is no longer handled by Dropbox, so if someone were to open that file its contents would not be available (due to it being just a placeholder). That’s why Dropbox in that notification suggests moving the file(s) back to the Dropbox folder, having their contents made available locally (by just opening them or by using the right-click Dropbox context menu) so that they turn into regular files instead of placeholders.
The next step here would be to figure out which app or who moves those placeholder files outside of the Dropbox folder and why.
Hope this helps,

- DBoxTips2 months agoExperienced | Level 11Just wondering how OneDrive is involved here. I imagine OneDrive syncs the files in its own folder, while Dropbox has its own separate folder. Is there any overlap between the two or some other software that could be moving files out of the Dropbox folder?
Another place I would look at is the https://dropbox.com/events page or the sync log/activity in the Desktop app that shows up when you click the Dropbox tray icon, to at least know which files are being moved out of Dropbox. A log entry indicating those files being removed from Dropbox could provide a clue.
Thanks,

I suspect it's OneDrive, because it only happens when OneDrive is running.
