Dropbox keeps asking me to install Word even though it’s already installed.
All of a sudden Dropbox tells me to install Word when I try to open my Word document in Dropbox for iPad. I already have Word installed! The only options I have are to tap “Install” (which takes me to the App Store, where Word has already been installed) or “Not Now”, in which case it just takes me back to the main menu. How do I get Dropbox to understand that Word is already installed?
Hi all, I just wanted to mention that we heard back from the team and this should be resolved now.
Let us know if anyone is still having issues with this!

Hi ben_galaxy, welcome to our Community!
As a first thing, in order for us to further troubleshoot the behavior that you mentioned between the Dropbox app and Word: have you tried rebooting your device?
If I were you, I'd definitely access my Dropbox settings in the app itself, and clear the cache from there. An uninstall and re-install would also be ideal, if you could.
Keep me posted, and we'll take it from there!

I had tried rebooting the tablet and clearing cache, neither of which worked. However, after signing out and signing back in the problem seems to have resolved. Thanks for the help!

Well unfortunately that solution is short-lived. Yes, signing out and signing it fixes the problem but it just happens again a couple days later. It’s now happened 3 more times since I posted this last message. Can someone help me find a permanent fix?

I am having the same issue. I uninstalled dropbox then updated dropbox, word and my ipad and still having the same trouble. Very frustarating as it's hindering staff production.
- MDW 123Helpful | Level 5Same issues. Dropbox used to be flawless.

Dropbox is asking me to Install Microsoft word on my iPad even though it is already installed. I have updated my iPad, Dropbox and Word, as well as restarting the iPad. deleting and reinstalling apps. I have cleared the Dropbox cache also.

Hey J_nelly_5, sorry to see you're having this issue.
Can you let me know which iOS version you're running and which Dropbox version too?
Please feel free to also access your Dropbox settings in the app itself, and clear the cache from there. An uninstall and re-install would also be ideal, if you could.

It is not possible to open a document in Excel or Word from Dropbox in my iPad or iphone, as I always have done, to be able to edit. When it should be opened, it says that I should download the app, but both apps are already there so I cannot do anything from that point on. I tried to delete Word and Excel to upload again but it happens always the same.
Anyone with the same problem? What can I do? Everything worked perfectly until today.
Thank you!

Same problem. I logged out and logged back in and at least it stopped prompting me to install word which is already installed, but now when I try to edit, it says the file is read only. I remember now I had clicked on something in the PC version of the file that I thought would make it such that I’d have to enter a password when trying to edit it on a mobile device, but instead it locked the file. Couldn’t figure out how to unlock it on the PC, so I copied the info and pasted it into a new file, so now I can edit the new file from a mobile device. But, dropbox mobile has been very glitchy today forcing me to sign off and back on several times to get rid of the prompts to install word when I already have it.

As of a few days ago, I started having the issue others have had on iPhone & iPad where Dropbox doesn’t recognize that Microsoft Office apps are installed.
I first went into Excel and removed dropbox as a storage option, and then added it again - that didn’t work.
I then removed and re-installed Dropbox and it worked for a day and then stopped again.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Regards,
Karl

Hi JohnKMcHenry, are you running the latest version of the Excel app? Have you tried uninstalling it, rebooting the device, and reinstalling it?
- JohnKMcHenryExplorer | Level 4
Hi Jay,
Thank you for the quick response, but that didn’t work.
As per your instructions
I removed all microsoft apps from my ipad, including OneDrive.
I then shutdown, powered back up and installed Excel only.
I then tried to open a few different Excel files in DB and it still want’s me to install Excel.
Dropbox ver 320.3
Excel ver 2.71

Karl
