There was a problem completing this request

Hi Everyone,

Yes, I am also facing the famous error message "there was a problem completing this request".

I just switched from an Macbook to a Windows laptop. I freshly installed windows 10 pro on the laptop and the dropbox app was running fine.

Then I decided to upgrade to windows 11 pro. I formatted the hard drive and did a clean install to windows 11.

Downloaded the dropbox app, logged in using the same credentials and then got the error message. Whatever I am trying, I cannot get this to work.

So here's a list of what I've done:

- Disabled all anti virus, VPN, firewalls

- Reinstalled windows 11 again

- Tried the web install and full install (I always run them as administrator)

- Clean dropbox install (removed register entry's for dropbox)

- Run the dropbox client.exe in compatibility mode, tried all available options

- Run the dropbox client.exe as an adminstrator

I can login with the same credentials when logging in online. This works in Chrome and Microsoft Edge.

No matter which account I use to login with the windows 11 app I get the same message.

So I assume it is not account related but it has something to do with Windows 11.

The weird thing is, on my main desktop PC I am running windows 11 (same build) with the dropbox and not facing any problems.

I would love to know if anyone has a suggestion on how to fix this annoying issue.

My laptop:

Dell XPS 15 9510

Windows 11 (22H2)

Windows 64 bit

Edit 60 minutes after posting:

I also downgraded to windows 10 pro but I still get the same error message.

Also tried to enable my location, but didn't work.

Also tried a VPN to connect from the UK / Norway / Belgium / Germany but no luck so far.

Connected my laptop to my phone hotspot instead of my regular home network.

Updated all drivers and installed all windows updates

This is starting to get really annoying

  • Hey Walter,

So I got it sorted now, I guess it had something to do with my own network at home. I was able to login from the office without a problem.

    Thanks for the help anyway!
