I'm changing computer, how can I use the same external drive for my backup?
I'm getting ready to buy a new laptop and my dropbox backup location is actually an external hard drive which is connected to my current laptop. I can obviously just plug in the external hard drive ...

Hi Todd7, thanks for bringing this to our attention.
Just for clarification, when you say backup location, do you mean that your Dropbox folder is located on the external drive when it was connected to the old laptop?
Also, what is the OS version of the new computer you're going to use? Is it the same version as the previous laptop?
This will help me to assist further!

Yes Jay - my dropbox folder is located on an external hard-drive connected to the e: drive of my laptop. I will be moving from Windows 10 Pro in my old computer (laptop) to Windows 11 Home edition on my new laptop. Thanks - Todd

Hey Todd7, thanks for the update here.
In that case, as long as the external drive is connected to the new laptop before you install the Dropbox app on it, you should be able to choose the drive as the location of your Dropbox folder, during the installation process, from the "advanced settings".
Let us know how it goes.
