Dropbox Icons on EXPLORER files and folders missing but visible in Open and Save As Dialog Boxes

The Dropbox icons are gone when I use the Windows 10 explorer including the . I tried everything I could find in the web to fix it without success. It took me 2 days now.

I noticed: In the Windows 10 explorer, no Dropbox icons are shown and no Dropbox context menu entries are shown ( Dropbox share..., copy Dropbbox Link, show on Dropbox)

But in most Open and Save As Dialog Boxes - like Word OpenDialog - all icons are visible, all context menu entries are shown. E.g. the Open Dialog of NOTEPAD doesn't show icons and menus.

I reeinstalled several times, ranked the overlay identifiers, moved der Dropbox folder. Now I have no idea what else I could try. May be you.

Thanks Andreas

Try unlinking your computer from dropbox and then relinking. Also, make sure your dropbox is set to start on boot?

When reinstalling dropbox, make sure to run the installer as an administrator.

Check out this article to see if your windows registry has hit the limit of 14 for special explorer badges. Near the bottom.

Hey Andreas (Andreas_HH), I’m just checking back on progress; have you been able to address your concerns?

Hi Jane, I unlinked my account, I deinstalled the app, I moved the folder, I started with brandnew folder, checked the DropboxExtnn entries, all of it several times with no success.

The Dropboxfolder contains nearly 700GB. I'll give up now and will live with no icons. What makes me still wonder is that the icons are shown in COMDLG32 dialogs.

      thanks

      Andreas

Thanks a lot for looping back to me & for the detailed message on the troubleshooting you’ve already tried on your own Andreas (Andreas_HH)!

I’m wondering if you’ve had a chance to check back on gagany’s advice above, that could of assistance on this behavior. As you’re working on a on Windows device, please note that Windows has a limit of 15 overlay icons that Windows Explorer can load, and the operating system reserves 4 for its own use. If there are more than 15, then Dropbox's icons or context menus may not show.

Information on how to check the number of icons and steps on how to resolve this issue can be found in the following Help Center article under the "For our advanced users" section here. (Note: It’s the one gagany had linked above.)

If this persists, I'd appreciate a screenshot (omitting personal info) of what you’re seeing in your files on the Windows Explorer & on the “Save As/ Open” dialogue boxes in next message here, so as to get a better idea of what’s happening.

Thanks again for your cooperation & I’ll be awaiting your next reply, in order to work together on a fix!
