I need to know how to check for my folder size or amount of files.

I just realized there's no folder information on the website or phone app in my current plan, which is Professional.

I think a basic information folder should be available, I shouldn't need to upgrade for something so basic as knowing the folder size and amount of files.

Please consider this since doesn't make any sense that I have access to AI tools but not SO basic information.

Thanks.

  • Hi Caamada,

I'm an engineer who works on the Dropbox website. Based on your suggestion, we just added new fields to the folder sidebar on the Web. The sidebar will now include information about the number of items in that folder ("descendants") and the size of those descendants. To see this information, right click a file in the files view then click "Folder info". Please note the size in the sidebar will only provide the size of a folder's direct file descendants, and not the size of any nested folders. In this case, the sidebar will say something like "> 200 MB".

Later this week, the new folder sizes will also show up in the Size column in the files view. For folders with sizes like "> 200 MB", you can still right click the folder to select "Calculate size" to get a more accurate size.

Thanks for being part of the Dropbox community!

Hi there @Caamada - thanks for sharing your thoughts on this.

When you say you shouldn't need to upgrade for this function, could you elaborate a tad as it's not quite clear to me?

When it comes to the size of your folders, you can use this feature.

As for checking the number of the items a folder contains, you can hover your cursor over the folder and click on the 'quick view' option that shows up on the right.

Let me know if this helps!

      Hi Walter.
I had a chat with support and they told me that with team plan I have access to such tool/information.  That's why I said I shouldn't need to upgrade.

Also support gave me the solution you suggested, which is not a solution. First I have to click on Calculate size for each folder separately, which is a pain of a task.

Second, the quick view shows you iteams but not sub items. So I can see there are 3 items, 3 folders for example, but not the amount of items that folder contains.
That's what I mean. I prefer not to have any IA tool but good basic information tools.

      Thanks
