Ipad version of word not syncing with Dropbox
Hi,
I've been syncing Microsoft Word files between my Macbook and Ipad through Dropbox with absolutely no problem.
Right now I noticed that while Word on my Ipad timestamps the time I changed a file on my Macbook, it opens up an older version of the file for no reason.
I've tried logging in and out of Dropbox, and logging in and out of Word on my Ipad and nothing seems to work.
Any thoughts? Is the issue with Word itself?
I went to "settings" and tried "reset Word -- clear all documents". That seemed to do the trick. Thanks!

Having the same problem with all dropbox files edited with MS Word app. resetting Word app to clear files works, but have to do it every time I use the app which is an awful workaround. Please fix!!!

Thanks for noting. For one major file I've been working on I switched to OneDrive because I wasn't sure if I would have to reset every time I worked on the document. Not sure if this requires an update in Word or in Dropbox, but personally I would prefer to continue to work on Dropbox without having to do this process over again constantly.
- MotteHelpful | Level 6I am having the same problem. And I have to reset Word every Time, which is a hassle. Any hint is kindly appreciated!

I found a workaround which at least prevents from editing the wrong, i.e. old document. I deactivated the auto-save function in my word app on the smartphone. Now I am asked, wether to save the editied version or not, when leaving the word app. When the answer is "yes", the old version will be overwritten.
Whenever I open the word doc from within Dropbox now, the word app realizes that some newer version exists and asks, wether the newer version is to be opened.
This workround requires some more questions answered and clicks, but at least it openes the correct, newest version.

Thanks! That seems to work with me too. A good workaround, although would be nice to still have the autosave feature available to avoid having to do this.

Hi sok123; thanks for posting on our Community!
Assuming that the desktop app on your Mac is 'up to date' and not still syncing (in your menu bar), can you please check if this only affects only one file or all of your Word files? Do you see the versions you're looking for on our website or within our mobile app on your iPad?
Also, have you ensured you're using the latest versions of both apps and your device's OS?
Any additional information or even a screenshot are more than welcome!

Hi there,
Thanks so much for your email. Everything is up to date (MacBook app, Mac OS, iOS on IPad, latest versions of Microsoft Word and Dropbox app on iPad). Everything has been synced, with no syncs pending. I have included two screenshots below from Microsoft Word on iPad to illustrate the problem. In the first shot, I'm trying to open the file through Dropbox through the app. It shows that the file was last updated yesterday at 9:38 pm (which is accurate). However, in the next shot, you see that when I actually open the file, it's showing a version update Sunday, December 5, which is the last time I updated the version on my IPad. The issue has to be with the Word app, because I tried using Dropbox through the iOS version of Excel with no issue, and I created a second Word docX test file on my MacBook that had the exact same problem (I.e. not showing the latest synced version on the iPad when I update it through my MacBook). It may be the case that Word simply needs to do an update, but not sure what else can be done or if this is a permanent issue.

I’m using an iPad and have been using DropBox for years but over the past month, I’m having major issues. I can see the latest version of Word documents in my Preview screen. I can export that version to myself and confirm that it is the version I want, but when I try to open the document from DropBox in Word, I get an old version. It shows ‘Downloading changes’ but when it’s finished, I’m still left with the old version.
I am considering looking for other software because this is happening regularly on my iPad. It doesn’t seem to happen on my PC thankfully but when I’m out I need to edit things and I can’t unless I export, save ANOTHER copy and then start editing that one.
Any ideas what’s going on?
Thanks
- DaphneDropbox StaffThanks for posting BethOfAus.
For the moment, I can suggest using this workaround to help with the issue.
I'd like to have a better look into it with your through our Support channel though, alongside some device specific info, so I've just sent you a brief email.
If you'd like to, please check your inbox for my message and we'll take it from there - cheers! - MotteHelpful | Level 6
Jake, Mar 19, 2021, 8:43 AM PDT:
Hello Motte,Thanks for contacting us.
My name is Jake and I will be happy to assist you with your request.
From my understanding you are having an issue syncing Word documents on the Dropbox mobile app.
Currently I can only see a BlackBerry Priv (STV100-4) linked to your account.
*Dropbox no longer maintains a Dropbox app for Blackberry. This app has been built by Blackberry Limited using Dropbox APIs and has not been reviewed by Dropbox.
You may need to contact Blackberry regarding this issue.
Please let us know if you need further assistance.
Kind Regards
Jake
The Dropbox TeamDear Jake,
Thanks for your immediate reaction. You are right, as far as a BlackBerry Priv (STV100-4) is linked to my account. But have you noticed, that other Dropbox users are having the exact same problem? I assume, these users are using up-to-date smartphone os. I would bei happy, if you'd dive deeper into the problem.
Kind regards
Motte
