How to send a file to a friend?
I do not use Dropbox very often. It used to be very simple:
1. upload file
2. click to send a message to recipient and designate uploaded file for the recipient
3. enter recipient's eMa...

Hi portman, let's jump right into this!
There are many ways to achieve what you need. The easiest ways would be sharing a link with your friend, or using a File Transfer.
It all depends on your needs. Want to have a look at the relevant Help Center articles I included, and let me know if you have any questions?
Keep me posted!

Dropbox has abandoned those of us who are infrequent users of File Transfer, who only want to occasionally send a file to a recipient in the easiest, simplest, and most convenient manner possible.
It has become so complex that I have spent hours negotiating byzantine Help files in its database that fail to answer the simplest of questions in a straightforward and efficient way.
Sadly, present management of Dropbox has created a complex App that is suitable for an environment that has trained IT personnel available to demonstrate the "how To's" we used to be able to figure out without resorting to Knowledgebase and/or Help files and do so in minutes, not hours.
For those of you looking for a simple transfer App, just Google "WeTransfer" and you will find an App that meets your needs. It took me less than 10 minutes to Upload a Gig and a half .mkv video, prepare a notification to be auto sent to my recipient with instructions to go to a URL defined download and complete the download on his end.
When the notification was sent to the recipient, I got an eMail confirming.
When the file was downloaded by the recipient, I got an eMail confirming.
I then went onto the website and deleted the file and I did all of this without once having to seek help files or a Knowledgebase.
I am now looking to close my Dropbox account and forget about the five hours I just wasted getting a file to a friend using its website.
Thank you, Megan, for your effort, but I had reviewed all of the pages you referenced before posing my question to the community and some of the pages you pointed to contained instructions that must have referred to a different App on a different OS as they bore no resemblance to what I saw on my Win 10 computer, when I tried to follow the enumerated steps.
